Another tragic story

You also need to be talking to your male friends and son about respect, consent.

Although we are a bit out in the sticks, we used to have a regular visit from the local community police officers. A couple of years ago they said that they were being given a larger area and we haven’t seen them since. I know that the police can’t be everywhere but years ago you would see them in city centres, town centres, on motorways, all over the place. I rarely see them anywhere now. Any potential predator will know that there is probably zero chance of seeing police officers when out and about.

Re Domestic abuse. I note your ā€˜braver’.
The narrative has change quite radically (thankfully) we do not expect women to be brave and leave. They are petrified of leaving. Most women killed are more likely to be when you separate.
From my work the separation causes more issues, there can be financial reasons to stay, many women have no recourse to funds as have been brought to the UK. I dealt with one pretty awful one today (where the whole family were implicit in abuse). Because of the UK hostile environment women from abroad will remain with an abusive partner. They are pretty brave putting up with it already.

We used to work just with the mum and helping her to get out. Now we are addressing men and talking to them about their behavior and it’s impact on children. We ask them to address their behaviour. Of course some will say no but some will say yes. There was some evidence in the first lock down that more men were contacting services to get help around domestic abuse.

I said I wasn’t going to contribute to this thread anymore, but saw this and thought it deserved to be shared. He’s completely right.

We have a directorate ā€˜catch up’ teams thing yesterday. Our workforce is predominantly women. The ā€˜catch up’ originally came from last years discussions around race. I work in a very diverse borough and that is reflective of the workforce too.

This was shared.

I’d not seen this until yesterday but feel i shared some of what she said in 2018 on this thread.

I made the mistake of going in Fiverweb last night to see how they were dealing with this issue. The thread is entitled Male Privilege. They have completely missed the issue and turned it into a defence of the male. It is probably one of the most misguided and disturbing threads I have seen on a forum, and I have seen a few. As the guy in the earlier clip makes clear, men have to reframe what is happening and take ownership of it.

I’m disappointed by the police but more so by the protesters.

I’m conflicted by comments by the ā€œSisters Uncutā€ organisation (is that the right word for them?)

I just have a sense that the tragic murder of this woman is being hi Jacked by self interest groups.

Her murder needs to follow due process but ā€œsocietyā€ needs a radical reset - a lot of males need ā€œresettingā€ with a big heavy stick.

Urgh…

Seems the met handled the vigil well last night. Women holding vigil for woman murdered by met officer brutalised by met officers. Good look that.

FFS, what the hell are they doing?

Defund the police, perhaps? :unamused:

One thing I genuinely can’t understand, the crowd was always likely to be predominantly female and it’s blindingly obvious that the force were always going to be absolutely wide open to criticism over just this type of action, whether it was justified or not. So, why on earth wasn’t it policed by WPCs? Surely the Met must have a sufficient contingent to have covered that one event?

Now players like Zaha are no longer ā€˜taking the knee’, perhaps they could do something for the woman’ s movement instead?

Curtsey?

Not sure why they didn’t just let them get on with it and video everything like they do at the footy.
Maybe they just thought it’s only a bunch of birds, no bother dealing with them. Way to go.

Sisters Uncut campaign about domestic abuse and the real lack of services for women. They describe them as a collective.
This murder has sparked a debate that this group and many others have been having for some time. I don’t think they are hijacking it at all.
Not sure using more violence to reset anyone will help.

Don’t disagree- and please don’t think that I don’t care - I really do - I’m just saddened, angry, disappointed and annoyed in general that society is still so Neanderthal (I’m sure Neanderthal’s had caring intelligent people too btw).
