Another tragic story

In a normal civilised world, if we ever get there, anyone should be able to walk home alone in the evening / go for a run / walk in the park etc in this country without any fear for their safety.

Sadly, although it is safe the great majority of the time, it is not always.

Mrs B watched the news breaking on this latest tradegy and immediately said “walking at night, on your own, with earphones on so you can’t hear others approaching, in Clapham, is risky. Get an Uber!”

Is it sad you have to take precautions? Totally.

I’m at lunch but I am very much going to be coming back to this thread and address some of what’s been said.

Yes Miss, thank you Miss

1962 my first posting was to Ballymena, N.Ireland. I met a gorgeous young lass and to be allowed to take her out she needed to be chaperoned. Nowadays girls laugh if asked if they want an escort to and from wherever. They have become far more adventurous which is part of the problem I feel. Some males will never condescend to women being equal.
Schooling should stress the importance of more than the way to have sex. They should show how and why girls especially need more protection. Emphasis on safety needs to be taught early and at length.

From what I’ve heard it’s to be “taught early and at girth”.

I wish I had the answers and I wish it was that easy that you could sort it out on a football forum but we could start by teaching children about respect and that women aren’t just sex objects. Page 3 has been mentioned already and although it is gone there is still a mindset that says that woman are there for the benefit of men’s pleasure. You brought up the Ched Evans case that I was involved on TSW. If you read any of the content you would see how little regard there was for the victim. She was out of her head so clearly up for it with anybody. Wouldn’t a decent person have put her in a taxi and made sure she got home ok, not take her to a hotel, have sex with her, get your mate involved while your other mates are outside filming it on their phones? If this was happening to men do you think that nothing would be done about it?

Sarah Everard: Women share their fears of walking alone https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-56361529

Let’s not use the Ched Evans case as an example, because we don’t agree on it and can’t be arsed debating that shit again. However, the inability to consent, or implied consent is a difficult one because of the time alcohol and drugs take to have an effect on the body, as well as other factors. However, we’re not debating that here, we’re talking about violence.

All through history there is a history of sexually aggravated violence against men and women. Pg 3 did not encourage Jack the Ripper to kill his victims. Nor Ted Bundy. Nor John Wayne Gacy (for young boys).

The problem is you’re conflating two issues. Those caused by nature (and early years nurture), and those by nurture. I would hazard a guess that the majority of murderers, rapists and paedophiles come from the former, due to the psycho and sociopathic nature of those people. These are the ones you can’t do anything about, and as said I would expect the majority of violent issues to come from them, and history certainly points that way.

Pornography needs to be limited for sure, especially violent porno. However, you’re not solving the issues you think you are.

We are talking about abusing and using women for sex which is precisely why the Ched Evans case is relevant.
I’m not against pornography. I am against the ease at which very young people can access it. For many it is there first introduction to sex. How can that be right?

Point of order. At the moment this is a murder tale, not a rape case.

So you’ve gone away from your original post then because you can’t come up with any ideas on how to solve it? You were going on about the fact that women assume that they are going to get abducted on their way home?

If that’s the fact and we’re not talking about that, can you please edit your first few posts as it seems to be a different subject you’re actually talking about.

With regards to porn, someone over 18 is fine to watch violent porn then - it’s literally an age thing?

Violence against women takes different forms and often involves both and that is what we are dealing with. I hope for her and her family’s sake that she wasn’t also sexually assaulted but that is usually the case.

I think that we are in need of a female perspective on this thread.

Can I just check that where you said BLM you meant racism?

Fuck knows what he means - he’s asked above how we stop men raping and killing women, and then when asked questions and given a proper debate on the issues he says he’s talking about wolf whistling and porn.

Link hasn’t worked mate.

Why do you deliberately misinterpret what I say?

Very sad story.

Would be a lot sadder if any of this kneejerk shit like male curfews were put in place. This is abnormal and abhorrent activity. It should not be used as a precursor for keeping half the population, most of them normal, off the streets after 6pm.

That is not to dismiss the very real difference in violent crime between men and women. That needs to continue to be addressed. You do that by putting more money into the court system, the detection system and any number of other initiatives before locking blokey up before bedtime.

Except for @tigger. Mr Tigger is in his Harry Potter-esque bedroom sharpish
