Albums Of The Year - 2017

Albums Of The Year - 2017

As last year’s selection…not necessarily the best but ones I’ve enjoyed…

Masseducation - St Vincent

Music For People In Trouble - Susanne Sundfor

American Dream - LCD Soundsystem

What Now - Sylvan Esso

Moonshine Freeze - This Is The Kit

Crack Up - Fleet Foxes

A Fever Dream - Everything Everything

The Nashville Sound - Jason Isbell

Heartworms - The Shins

Sempa Femina - Laura Marling

Last Place - Grandaddy

Memories Are Now - Jesca Hoop

Edit: Loney Dear - Loney Dear…found in my “YouTube, Watch Later” and finally watched yesterday…brilliant. :lou_lol:

Nobody getting involved with this? I’m usually 2 or 3 months behind whatever is brand new, but some of the things I’ve listened to most this year (off the top of my head and not in order):

Drip Mental - Fire-Toolz

Where Are We Going? - Octo Octa

#LP4080 - Strange U

Mansion 38 - Jam Baxter

22.02.85 - Bastien Keb

Paradiso - Chino Amobi

Hungan - Kemper Norton

Fantasii - Mhysa

Utopia - Bjork

Chromola - 1982

Black Origami - Jlin

The Animal Spirits - James Holden

Concrete Desert - The Bug vs Earth

Join the Fucking Drum Circle - Do Pas O

The only new stuff I’ve listened to this year is Mac Demarco. That’s terribly sad, isn’t it? Oh and Courtney Barnett and Kurt vile.

I have done a lot of research on the matter and discovered that no good music has been made since 1995. Radiohead aside.

I have a lot of friends like you Tokes…except they think the cut-off date is 1972 and the exception Showaddywaddy. :lou_facepalm_2:

It is not my true opinion but a spin on a Steve Coogan/Alan Partridge joke.

Yeah I’d forgotten that one…unfortunately my comment was based on fact. :lou_sad:

I’m always useless at cutting these down, but these are my faves of the year, that I can remember.

Bjork - Utopia

Mogwai - Every Country’s Sun

Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

Slowdive - Slowdive

Loyle Carner - Yesterday’s Gone

The Big Moon - Love In the 4th Dimension

Princess Nokia - 1992 Deluxe

Ride - Weather Diaries

Sylvan Esso - What Now

Alvvays - Antisocialites

Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds from Another Planet

Sampha - Process

Future Islands - Far Field

Menace Beach - Lemon Memory

tonstartssbandht - Sorcerer

Elder - Reflections of a Floating World

Waxahatchee - Out in the Storm

Favourite Single = Confidence Man - Boyfriend (repeat)

Favourite non-2017 albums discovered this year = Slowdive - Souvlaki, Ride - Going Blank Again, If These Trees Could Talk - Red Forest, Nils Frahm - Solo

I just realised I haven’t listened to a full album (all the way through start to finish) since Muse - Resistance in 2009.

I know it weren’t great, but surely that’s no reason to swear off albums :lou_wink:

I hate the cherry-picking of tracks prevalent with today’s Spotify generation. I buy online and even if an “autorip” is offered I’ll buy the CD too. Artist make fuck-all from album sale these days because of it.

Respect the artistic effort put into a collection of music and buy the whole album.

A late shout for a record I’ve only recently been introduced to:

Configuração do Lamento, by DEAFKIDS

Full-tilt Brazilian drug-panic psych rock. An absolute kick in the cock.

“Full-tilt Brazilian drug-panic psych rock absolute kick in the cock” is the best indie band name
