Forgive me for saying so, SOG - but I don’t really see the relevance of African ages of consent with respect to an English criminal trial. Why the inclusion?
Let’s make this clear. In this country, you can’t fuck a fifteen year old. Period. It doesn’t matter that Swede’s can fuck 13 year olds, or whatever. Adam Johnson is English, fucking an English girl, in England.

Following a jurno who is tweeting from court. They’ve read out the Whats App stuff he sent to the girl. He knew she was 15 but was determined to fuck her anyway.
A very expensive fuck, assuming that he did.
We were discussing the age of consent and whether it should come down. I thought it would be interesting to compare ours with those of other countries. There are clearly big differences in what you can do depending on what country you are in. He will be branded a paedo if found guily of having sex with her here, but he could consensually shag a 14 year old in Germany, Austria, Portugal and Italy and it wouldnt even go to court.
He admits grooming a fifteen year old, he admits kissing and touching a fifteen year old.
There is little more to debate.
Other than which prison he’s going to, which prisoner is going to assault him first, and when will be the first mention of pompey offering him a way back into football on his release.

Just want to make it clear that Johnson knows what the law is in this country and will get all he deserves. If he was that desparate for some of that action he should have gone abroad.
I’m sure there are some places where that is the case, but I don’t think it is quite as simple as you are presenting it here.
I wouldn’t be surprised if upon further inspection a lot of the countries with different age limits have things similar to us, the ‘goldilocks’ rule as pap said. I’m also fairly sure in a lot of these places it would be just met with indifference.
Not really sure why you are attempting to go round the world to make allowances for his behaviour. Legality is not an indictaor of morality. As I said, even in places with lower ages of consent, I’m sure Johnson’s behaviour would still be met with a pretty negative reaction.
He knew what he was doing, and didn’t care. What African/South American consent laws are is a bit irrelevant to this case. Plenty of us will know people that have been in trouble for being in possession of baned substances, whilst in some US States (how the fuck have we ended up looking across the atlantic and thinking, christ, you guys have a much more progressive approach than us) you can legally buy weed, or in Portugal most drugs have been decriminalised. It doesn’t really stack up as much of a defence here (sadly).
I am not trying to make allowances for his behaviour. I am simply pointing out that other countries have different ages of consent. Morally he might be seen as doing wrong but if the age of consent is lower elsewhere then he wouldnt be prosecuted there would he? I have shown the different ages of consent purely as part of what we were talking about earlier. There is no agenda I can assure you. As a father of three girls I am not desparate for the age of consent here to be lowered, although they are all 16 and above now. I am interested in why the age of consent varies so much though depending on where you are. As I said before, a paedo here isnt a peado in some other countries.
I am not certain but I think they will have insurance to recover some of the “loss” here. Still, they have done the right thing and quickly, spot on.
It will certainly cost Johnson though! He is a very foolish man.
