I don’t really understand your point. Were these 16 yr olds preying on children much younger? If so, the point I was making about people being of similar maturity levels doesn’t count. Also, “some” is not a number.
You’re probably right, KRG, but, as I understand it, the 16 year old would technically be committing rape due to the fact that his girl friend was under the age of consent and therefore he would be having sex without her consent, regardless of whether or not she was a willing partner.
But, I’m certainly no legal expert, so any clarification from someone who is would be appreciated.
oh, and being sexually mature is irrelevant. They are emotionally immature, which is where the problem lies.
They were after 15 year old girls. Under age girls. And you are right, some is not a number.
so what’s the point you’re making?
Sounds like most members of Stevesweb.
I think it was me.
KRG has been pretty spot on with what he’s said. Legally it’s rape/sexual assault but if one of the couple is 16 or 17 and the other is 15 they are less likely to pursue it if it’s consensual. However, if one is under 13 years that’s statutory rape. The law is linked below. From a professional background I start to query 18 year olds with 15 year olds. As the age gap gets bigger when there is a teenager involved then I wonder about power dynamics. Some of the parents I work with now had quite large age gaps with the male partner being significantly older and having met them when they were 14 or 15. I am pretty sure they were groomed due to their vulnerability.
I don’t think there needs to be a change in the age. But maybe what needs to happen is better education about relationships, consent, the law and what happens if you do not adhere to it, even self esteem so power imbalances cannot be exploited so well etc. I love this video
I could go on about Child Sexual Exploitation and the impact this is having on so many vulnerable young people (male and female).
This footballer is admitting he knew she was under 16, he was 10 years older. There are some cases where the young girl says she is older, instead of thinking with your dick, maybe ask a few questions, even check ID if you don’t want to get into trouble.

That you dont have to be older to be a sexual predator.
And herein lies the problem. People mature at different rates. It is assumed that there is a level of maturity that enables young people to deal with sex at 16 whereas some people are clearly willing and able under 16 whereas there are people who arent mature enough to deal with sexual relationships until they are older than 16. But I accept that you have to draw the line someone - it is just where? We say 16, some countries say younger.
And some say older.
They do indeed.
Out of interest, here are some ages of consent from around the globe:-
USA California 18, New York 17 - Brazil 14 - Argentina 13 - Ireland 17 - Germany 14 - Romania 15 - Italy 14 - Morocco 15 -
Ghana 16 - Uk 16 - DR of Congo 14 - China 14 - Iraq 18 - Bahrain 15 (or 21 for women who want to marry without their father’s consent).
Found some more info from European countries -
Age of Consent - No. of countries
14 - 14 countries
15 - 12 countries
16 - 21 countries
17 - 2 countries
18 - 3 countries
Cheers for answering my question, Intiniki
Tricky mess he has gotten himself into.
Obviously he is a Criminal and has clearly broken the Law for which there is no excuse even taking into account a possible lack of brains on his side.
But, from what I have read there is some context that hasn’t actually been discussed on here - he admitted the grooming but denies the actual “penetration” part.
Also interesting is that he seems to have had a series of “mishaps” in his love life, losing his last GF because he “Bought” a “Date” with Katie Price at a Celebrity Auction.
And his current partner (with whom he just had a baby) was standing by him as he hadn’t been convicted of anything.
Also has put BFS in a pickle as well 50k a week & 10 mil quid transfer fee down the toilet.
Clearly Grooming is not as severe an offence as actual bonking as seen by the different levels of Maximum Sentence. The issue now is will the Girl herself give evidence and how does he prove one way or the other…
However, during Wednesday’s hearing Johnson pleaded guilty to grooming a 15-year-old schoolgirl and admitted kissing and touching her…
He now faces the prospect of a prison term with guidelines on sentencing for the grooming offence giving a maximum of two years and six months.
Johnson will stand trial on two further counts of sexual activity with a child under 16 — both involving penetration — which he denies. The maximum sentence for those offences is 14 years.

Did Sunderland have much choice here? Doubt it. I know the details of the cases are different, but the furore over Ched Evans after he had served his sentence springs to mind.
Nope none at all…as soon as he pleaded guilty he was as good as gone…rightly so.

Obviously if all the facts are as they appear, then he is fucked (or not, as the case may be). What a moron.
The only thing with the actual charge itself that bothers me – is the phrase “sexual activity with a child”.
You can argue the technicalities all you like, but that makes it sound like he’s been fucking an 8 year old girl or something. Obviously I have no sympathy for him at all, but a fifteen year old girl, (unless she is particularly mentally or emotionally immature for her age), is at the stage where she is growing into a young woman; and experiencing the racing hormones that accompany most girls of that age. It is not like she had no idea what was going on, and played no part in this ‘relationship’.
Effectively, he has wrongly taken advantage of a young teenage girl, who from the little info available, seems to have at least initially wanted his attention. This in no way condones his behaviour, but the charge itself makes it sound like he has just lured her straight out of a middle school playground.
I think most people are going to be able to put those facts into context. The line that delineates child and adult blurs somewhat in that you get to do different things at different ages. Criminal responsibility, being able to bonk, being able to vote all hit at different times.
On the specifics, it’s pretty specific. I don’t think anyone is going to think child without weighing age into the equation. We’ve all been kids, and know from personal experience that fifteen is a very different age from eight. That said, many of Savile’s victims were at or around fifteen, and we’re rightfully outraged at that. I make no comparisons beyond that.
There’s a line; everyone knows it, and Johnson knowingly and needlessly stepped over it.
With Sunderland taking the immediate resolution they have, it’s difficult to see any club in England taking him on, because everybody knows the line, and people will protest any employer that dares to take him on. He’ll possibly get more less hassle in a foreign country where the age of consent is lower, but overall, the episode seems a grubby business. Really don’t understand why he didn’t disengage the minute he knew her age.
