🌥⛈ Actually any Holiday 2021 / 22 / 23/ 24 / 25

Having a holiday booze crisis

Place we are staying has a few restaurants but no bars and we are out of season so drinking at our house required

My bottle of ouzo turned out to be Raki

The local bottle red wine is undrinkable but is on the side in the hope that oxygen might resuscitate it

The bottle of local white has gone down the sink

Beginning to understand why the complementary bottle of wine was Spanish - it’s still crap

Raki is currently the best option in the house :face_vomiting:

You should worry. All I’ve got is 2.5% Icelandic Pilsner

Good news: it’s stopped raining.

Bad news: it’s fucking snowing, blowing a gale and we’re boarding a ferry that looks like a bath tub

No holiday should be where this could possibly happen.

I think going to see Santa in Lapland is probably the exception though.

Nah I would tell them that the elves are on strike and Santa has gone to the Caribbean for his hols and we should meet him there.

Friend? Looks more like family.

Oooh

Bit of an epic 7 hour drive through snowy mountains and by fjords and partly on very rough gravel roads. Early this morning we were advised not to try it but it cleared enough to do it - but very slow and tortuous in places. Definite 4x4. But absolutely amazing scenery.

May I draw the esteemed Gentlemans’ attention to the title of this thread?
SUMMER Holidays FFS.

(I am totally jealous obv. waiting to see the video of you guys in Asbestos Suits hiking into a Volcano)

I am assured by the locals that this IS summer. Minus fucking five Celsius. There’s a great hot tub at our latest lodge but I’d be coated in ice the moment I get out.

That’s what I remember most, the sheer coldness of it and feeling chilled to the core. The temperatures don’t look that bad to the casual glance, but it feels so much colder than they suggest. I never really felt less than frozen for the entire week we were there. Having said that, I was underweight and not particularly well at the time so that probably made it seem worse.

My trip there had time to do Blue Lagoon on way to airport.
Loved it.
But.
It was April -4 with windchill at -10.
And a 40m walk from the pool to the door of the changing room.
That was cold dear God that was cold

Did it in Jan 2020 - bloody cold but magical to be able to disappear into the mist with a cold beer and soak up heat and beer in equal measures (pics taken after warming up)

Thats only 20⁰C lower than EG we have a bit of cloud cover today

Good news. The sun came out. Better news. Afternoon spent at Myvatn Nature Baths - like the Blue Lagoon but cheaper, quieter and way better.
