Local S bahn works a treat and has done every day. Underground a bit seedy
Took the DB ice to Hamburg was excellent and on time. Leipzig 45 mins late leaving after Croatia v Italy but that helped me get on as my ticket was for 3 hours later.

Did the Berlin Hamburg ICE back in 2006 - Emirates took me to Croatia Brazil at the Olympic Stadion, First Class & Corporate all the way. Train was superb.
But was looking to plan a marathon to Cologne from here & both my lads said no way, connections are so unreliable now
Currently enjoying a 0.5% Ghost Ship Phil, which given your current predicament I can wholeheartedly recommend. Genuinely nice ale.
