:Cricket_bat_and_ball: 5th Test :engerland: England (and Wales) v India 🇮🇳 - The Oval

We have now equalled the highest opening partnership of the series (set by the Indians twice)

60

I don’t remember Cook (for all his qualities) ever doing flair.

Oh, there goes Jennings…

But don’t break the record Jennings chips an easy catch to leg slip looked like a total brain fart shot (again)

60-1

Commentators curse much?

More like posters curse I think.

Ball a bit older, now starting to swing a bit for Bumrah. Still plenty of time to be 80 odd for 6

68-1 at Lunch. Difficult 1st session negotiated. Grind a few more overs out and the pitch could ease after tea.

Cook 37 not out. Could have been run out by a mile earlier.

Time to get some chores done

Cook dropped at slip!

Ali dropped at slip now!

5 maidens in a row.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
but need to get through this spell, seems to have clouded over slightly

Just switched on, 14:02, first runs since lunch…

Review for LBW Ali not playing a shot
Wasted by India was outside off and missing on height
Phew

50 for Cook.

Ball swinging real hang in there stuff

Cook should retire more often. This is proper watchful opener stuff.

FFS finish chores. Have shower ready to go to a piss up birthday party check score and EXACTLY like last weekend

Sorry Chef. My bad

On the bright side 180 odd isn’t a bad 1st Innings score in an Oval Test these days…

I should see 13 wickets fall tomorrow then

I think India blew it yesterday.
England survived the opening session one wicket down and ground out some slow runs in the afternoon.
They played and missed at most deliveries and as the ball aged it swung much more.
I do not think Jimmy would have let them off the hook so easily.
I think India bowled the wrong length until late in the day and Jadeja bowled at the wrong speed.
I think that was a 34-4 pitch and we struggled up to 190+.

Of late the Oval has been a minefield in the first innings of Tests, dries out and plays flat for days 2 & 3 then turns into a spitting spinning devil towards the middle of day 4.
Any score over 200 is a good one.
India should be able to reach 280-320 on a flatter pitch but then England IF they can set them 160+ in the 4th innings should squeeze home.
Bairstow needs to take a break he seems totally shot at the moment. He is totally on auto-pilot and not adjusting to the conditions or the game. For all his performances, he is being made to look very ordinary and that is mental strength not talent.

An exciting day in prospect, don’t blink Bucks as you’ll probably miss a couple of wickets.

Am on some bloody medication meaning I should not drink, but I am in hostility, watching England, on a Saturday, so it would be akin to sedition if I didn’t. Game on.
