The Echo has released another 120 pictures of the post match celebrations…
Here’s my contribution of the day after when the whole city were collectively HUNG-OVER!
Shirley Road…just up from Foyes Corner.
I’m very nearly in, I think it’s about the 51st pic,.
I was precariously clinging on to a branch, on one of the trees in front of The Painted Wagon, but just out of shot. Damn!!!
What a weekend to have been a teenager.
Now that is a very rare thing indeed for back in those days. Nobody, well hardly anybody, let alone their dogs had replica shirts back then!!
Later today a friend of mine starts a very special trip.
The day we won the cup was his 30th birthday.
Tonight he starts from Wembley and over the next two days is walking to St Mary’s, via the Dell.
We were tanked up before we got to Wembley…drank cans in the car (I wasn’t driving) on the journey home. Went up to the OS Sports and Social Club bar early evening…cheap booze…watched it all again on Match of The Day in the TV room. Then tried to get into The Maybush but the doors were locked, too many in there already as was The Old Thatch. Thankfully The Blacksmith’s Arms was open and we managed to get a couple of pints there. We were just making our way down into town a pub at a time.
By midnight we were in Bedford Place and had a few more in The Bedford. The whole of the centre of town was a convoy of car sounding their horns with drunks hanging out of the windows everywhere. The Rose Gardens in front of the Civic Centre were already getting trampled and were totally destroyed the next afternoon.
Southampton had never experienced two days like it before or since. Even if we win it again I don’t think it will be anything like…The First Time.
Its great but it is also sad we haven’t won anything of merit since then and for a club of our size that’s criminal.
My Dad didn’t go to work for a week, said it was crazy.
I don’t remember much of this cos I was unfertilized egg at the time, but I’m not buvvered. I dare say it was Big News at the time, but it’s no Johnstones Paints.
Voted Bear down because I could
it’s not criminal - Hillsborough, that was criminal.
A lack of trophies is just a little annoying.
We’ve had a few close ones but we haven’t been good enough.
Take Leicester as an example - that couldn’t be us - last season and this season we have been nowhere near as consistent as they have been.
So we need to up our game - but we’ve come a long way in six years and unlike Newcastle etc, we don’t believe our own hype about being a BIG club.
We are doing alright.

man, I’m really catching some flack lately. I’m not allowed to troll FA CUP, I’m not allowed to troll Hillsbro. I even got downvote yesterday for saying that Hitler was a “great guy”.
PC gone MAD
The hazards of youth
Not the dukes of Hazard
Daisy…mmmmm.
Whilst the more sociable element in this “community” will be bending their arms a The Rockstone your plucky roving reporter will be toting his camera at the Civic Centre to cover this historic re-enactment.
Yes armed with my trusty Sony point ‘n’ shoot compact, I will be recording the “Wrinklies Bus Tour” to St. Mary’s. I am hopeful of being able to use my pensioner’s bus pass to hop onboard but failing that I’ll be organising a re-enactment of the '76 traffic chaos where 250,000 joyous locals delayed the bus for up to 2 hours meaning plenty of time to snap pictures along the whole of the route.
This time I will be recording the event in glorious COLOUR so don’t forget to log-in on Monday to view this exclusive historic documentry.
