đŸ€Ș 2019 General Election Discussion :gov:

Woke has changed its meaning a bit.

I was quite proud to have been called “woke af” by Young Adult #1 a couple of years ago, but that just meant being switched on ( woke as fuck ).

Woke these days appears to be about getting as offended as possible at anything possible.

Libs have promised ÂŁ10000 in training grants for every adult to be put in a skills wallet

Like that won’t get abused

I am thinking of a career as a dive instructor - PADI paid for

Actually I want to be a sommelier - WSET paid for

Basically this is going to fund my hobbies

Just a shame that thanks to the Lib Dems and the Tories, that won’t even pay for a third of a degree course.

Both of those could lead to a job.

Why be so cynical?

You’ve paid enough tax in your life I’m sure, why not simply see it as personal development.

Great for mental health and well-being.

It’s the sort of policy they have in Scandinavian countries that I’m always envious of.

Yep - but I am not going to use it for that purpose

The only winners are going to be private training providers - it is effectively a multi billion pound govt grant for that sector

And guess who will own those approved training companies

This is a still from yesterday’s service. Notice the colour of the wreath.

Why show a clip from 2016?

Being asked to do so by the Tories?

Apparently Boris looked disheveled yesterday and laid the weath so that his hand-written notes was upside down.

Also rumoured to have stepped out of line at the wrong time before going back in line.

I saw this yesterday but assumed it had been doctored but given the sound track, both the BBC’s and the bloke and baby who posted this, then perhaps it actually happened.

There are many upsides to this policy. Working practices are changing and we all need to broaden our skills base to be the best candidates we can, in order to adapt to the longer time spent working and the multiple skill sets required. Tech advancements, automation, working multiple jobs and the rise in self employment will all be supported by this sort of policy.

Just confirmed

Current Tory constituencies left alone

Not sure about this

The Tories could do without him in the marginals where they have a fair chance of winning, however there are some seats that would never vote Tory so that will just damage Labour

The idea of Farage as king maker??

Yep, speculation is that this might be phase I of a Brexit party withdrawal and that phase II might be to help Tories win against Labour.

Last week Farage stated that Johnson’s so called deal was a bad deal, worse than staying in the EU, and unless Johnson backed down and promised a no deal Brexit the Brexit Party would stand in all 600 plus constituencies. The day after he said this, Aaron Banks stated that he “profoundly disagreed” with Farage’s position regarding co-operation and an electoral pact with The Conservatives. The next day Farage made a complete about face, saying that he was willing to compromise with the Tories, which has resulted in today’s announcement. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Phase zero was all those “Remain” Labour MPs pushing an electorally suicidal Brexit Policy.

Neither Boris nor Nigel could have done it without them.

Farage made to look weak here.

As @Nottarf-Krap says, he’s been unequivocal about “Johnson’s Treaty with Europe” not being Brexit.

He’s equated Johnson’s deal with a car with a shiny bonnet that doesn’t bear scrutiny when you look deeper.

Johnson has not changed the deal so Farage has capitulated which allows Labour to point out that he’s a Tory at heart standing aside for his Tory friends for a deal he doesn’t believe in.

Might help Labour.

Commentators saying that phase I of Brexit party climb down isn’t that significant. It doesn’t help the Tories win Labour swing seats - in and of itself.

So, in anticipation of phase II, the next step surely has to be that Labour works with the Lib Dems to reciprocally stand aside to ensure we don’t have another Tory majority.

Egos and personal dislikes will probably mean it won’t happen.

It also allows other parties to equate the Tory party with the Brexit party.

This position might not sit well for one-nation, middle-ground, Brexit-agnostic Tories.

Here is evidence that Labour will use this tactic.
