Motorcade request for Infantino, World Cup red card rule added
Football is certainly keeping Vancouver busy. While discussions rage over the future of its MLS franchise, and World Cup preparations continue apace, police there were met with a request for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to receive a level-four motorcade escort during the world-game governing body’s annual congress in the Canadian city this week.
Security on that scale is usually reserved for people like the Pope or heads of state (U.S. President Donald Trump, for example). FIFA says the appeal for greater protection was made without Infantino’s knowledge, but in any case, the local cops said no. Sometimes you must think we’re making this stuff up.
