Why hasn't this government fallen?

It’s not that Corbyn doesn’t know how to play the game, he know’s full well what the game is. He just refuses to play it. That’s what really drives the government, the media, the establishment, and especially the Red Tories in the PLP in their desperate attempts to stop him getting his message across. Trying to undermine him at every turn, flat out bare faced lying, misrepresenting him, silly scare stories etc. His refusal to engage in personal attacks, despite continuous attempts to get him to bite must really infuriate them. He shrugs it off, remains calm and sticks to the matter at hand. They will become more and more hysterical because they are genuinely terrified of a Corbyn led government. The penny has dropped, he is a genuine ‘radical socialist’, the real deal, who won’t be bought off, won’t kneel at the feet of Murdoch and Dacre and the rest of the press barons. These people know that a Corbyn led government will mean that their snouts in the trough culture, the whole gravy train will come grinding to a halt. As the last election showed, once an election has been called and the media rules kick in whereby they are required by law to give equal and equitable coverage, when people get a chance to hear what Corbyn has to say, not a media interpretation of what he says, they are supportive. Most of what Corbyn espouses, once the media spin is removed is just plain common sense. In mainland Europe it is considered moderate social democracy. All this nonsense about ‘loony leftism’ is exactly that, nonsense. He may be an ‘old man thrust into a position’, but given the chance to hear what he has to offer without spin by the mass media more and more people are realising that far from not being suited, he suits it very well. He may not be the greatest orator, (read bullshitter), in the world, but what cannot be disputed by any honest person is that he is a decent caring man, with long held principles which he will maintain in the face of concerted attempts to force him to abandon them. The never ending campaign by the Israel Firsters to try and mark him with the Anti-Semite stain being a classic example. He, pretty much alone among Western political leaders, has steadfastly campaigned for and vocally supported the human rights of displaced Palestinians, and is unafraid to criticise the State of Israel for their brutality. The campaign to undermine Corbyn on this issue is led and financed by the Israeli Embassy in London, using their useful idiots in the Labour and Tory Friends of Israel groups, as exposed by the Al Jazeera documentary which caught them bang to rights. A foreign state openly undermining the democratic process in this country. Now where have we heard that before! To any honest and fair minded person, the suggestion that Corbyn, a man who has spent his whole career fighting on the side of anti-racism in all it’s forms, and has the voting record to back this up, is himself some kind of racist is clearly disgusting and desperate nonsense. And is increasingly being seen as such by anyone with a functioning brain. In a week in which we have seen the racist policies of the governing Tory Party coming home to roost in all their sickening glory, it is beyond ironic that they expect the public to believe that Corbyn is a racist. All Corbyn has to do is carry on as he is doing, ignore the media vilification, stick to his guns quietly focussing on the issues and refusing to be drawn into the personalization bollocks. Once any campaign is underway and his message is allowed to be heard without fear or favour he will do just fine.

After the events of the past week in which the reputation of this country has been dragged into the gutter, any reasonable, decent person who would even consider voting for this absolute shower of shite who are governing us now should have a long hard look in the mirror and then give their head a wobble.

Either Pap has taken a naive pill or he is totally dumb.

Politicians have only one interest in ife. Staying on the gravy train. A bit of power helps as well.

The current global clusterfuck is one thing but Brexit is a string of broken promises. Basically everyone is perfectly aware it will get worse befor anything gets better.

Putting your head into such a career limiting disaster is what is stopping any change.

Everyone is trying to keep the idiot May in charge until May 2p19.

A few responses to your points. First, I’m well aware that May will do anything to remain in power. That was perfectly obvious when she preferred to stay at the helm of a government that she’d just turned into a minority. I’m not as cynical about all politicians being quite so self-serving to the extent you’ve marked out, Corbyn being an obvious example. He’s not making all his decisions because they are politically easy. It’s more accurate to say that he goes against the grain, and to his credit, was one of three politicians predicting that Windrush would happen.

An MPs salary is still pretty decent, so there’s that, but I don’t think you can accuse backbenchers of principle of just being in it for the money, especially when compared to those that’ll say, do or vote for anything for advancement.

As for Brexit, there are few on the Leave side that thought everything would get better immediately. The proposition that we voted for was the long term future and direction of the country. We knew that the EU would attempt to make life difficult for us, just as we knew there would be plenty of quislings trying to overturn the result. Everything pointed to disruption in the short term. People voted anyway because they thought the pain of lancing the boil was probably worth it if you didn’t have to endure the boil anymore.

Completely agree that the Tories want May to carry the can for their Brexit implementation, just as I’m sure there are some in other parties that would prefer that outcome, including Labour moderates. The vast majority of the Labour membership wants this government out, now. In 2017, Iain McNicol was defunding Labour campaigns in marginal seats.

What’s all this ‘we’?

My northern relatives voted with the expectation of one thing. As my brother-in-law said, it was to get the “pakis and Poles” out, pure and simple. It made for an uncomfortable evening in the pub and no one there disagreed with him.

The irony is they hardly ever see a ‘Paki’ or a ‘Pole’. They live in the sticks in Derbyshire. But there we have it - that’s what they voted for.

Not surprising, and not shocking, @goatboy .

It should be.

But we live in a world where Richard fucking Madeley is braver and more incisive than anyone on the BBC’s staff.
