I am not saying that he should have lied, but there are ways of sayings and a time to say things. It’s what politics is all about. It is great having principles but if you really want to change things you need to get yourself and your party elected. It is no good saying we won the argument when the opposition has a landslide victory and you are in the wilderness for another 4 years. Give Starmer a chance. He really isn’t another Blair and as I keep saying, he is infinitely better than yet more Tory misrule.
For Starmer to be given a chance he needs to throw the left a bone. Stabbing Corbyn in the back won’t be easily forgotten. How about showing some commitment to the (popular) socialist policies from the last manifesto? The only commitments Starmer has given so far are to the Israel lobbyists and the status quo.
Well Goat, as I said, what else could he do? Corbyn put him in a no win situation and he really needs to put this anti-Semitic shit to bed. There is a long way to go yet and it has all been about anti-Semitism and covid so far. Labour is going to have to decide if it is a broad church, or just a bunch of squabbling factions. To talk about booting Starmer out when he has not long taken over is worrying. If he goes the same way as Blair, I’ll be right with you, but he needs time to steady the ship and cut loose a lot of the crap that has followed on from the last election.
How long did it take the Blairites to pass a vote of no confidence in Corbyn? Starmer has done well to last this long.
The right of the party has spent 5 years undermining a socialist leader, elected by the party members and hugely popular with the young. Calling for unity now is a bit fucking rich in my book. Let’s see some evidence that Keith can appeal to the left rather than alienating them.
He could say it’s fucking ridiculous that a foreign lobby with a principle aim of scaring people into accepting its international law breaking and crimes against humanity has so much power over the Labour Party.
But he won’t.
I completely share your concerns over the plight of the Palestinians but right now I am more concerned with the plight of the downtrodden here.
The plight of the Palestinians is one thing. If it was just that thing, that wouldn’t be great, but at least someone can go out and campaign for the Palestinians.
What has happened since is that effectively, you get called a giant racist for pointing out a load of giant racists.
Am I missing something in that tweet?
What did she say that was “Woah”?
Young Labour put something up in support of Jeremy Corbyn and were ordered to take it down. They haven’t taken it down.
Keith’s losing da yoot, if he ever had them. The official yoot, at that.
That’s make more sense
Keir needs to be careful, his dictator side is showing
Frankly, I dislike his dictator side less than his “sneakily undermine from within” qualities.
I suspect if Starmer throws any “bones” to the left they will never be satisfied and will always have it in for him / centrist Labour until (if ever) Corbyn v2 becomes leader. Likewise, the centre of the Party is unlikely to be seen to acquiesce to too many left based demands to make them feel better about supporting Starmer. Whatever, the current shitshow that is the Labour party needs to get its fucking act together, grow up and stop dicking around with in fighting that will give the Tories a much better chance of returning in the next election.
There does seem to be afoot the reverse of what happened when Corbyn got in and the far left set about trying to cement their position in the party
Classic power struggle - get control and get rid of the naysayers within
The opposition in this country is beyond depressing. The LibDems have disappeared into a black hole and Labour seemed more intent on infighting than fighting the government. Boris must be laughing all the way to the off-license.
A new party is needed and I think the Labour Party has to die before that emerges.
Fortunately, they’ve got exactly the right person in charge.
Ah, we all love a good flounce! Thing is, from what I understand nobody forced them to walk out. They chose to walk out.
