I used to love Kick Start and it inspired me to do a bit of trials riding.
I could be found (illegally) riding a Suzuki Beamish 325 around Browndown army camp back in the day.

Classicā¦I remember that episode. My mate was an expert scrambler and rode works AJS as a junior and works Kawazaki and KTM in The British Championship back in the '70s. He often practiced on Canford Heathā¦illegally.
Are they Jimmy Savilles or Lord Montagueās?
Montagueās inclusion unwarrentedā¦it was an anti-gay stitch-upā¦interesting read: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/jul/14/against-the-law-the-wildeblood-scandal-the-case-that-rocked-1950s-britain-and-changed-gay-rights
Sorry LITSL it is always going to happen mentioning boy scouts and any sort of sex Lord Monty is going to be invoked.
Tut tutā¦I thought you were above that sort of easy avenue.
Heād have been bloody decent then.
I used to go to watch the scramble meetings in the late 70 and early 80s and my sisterās boyfriend competed at an amateur level.
I also used to ride a Honda CR250R scrambler and an illegally imported Gilera 125 Enduro (which was made road 'legal") around Browndown camp. Happy days.
This modelā¦
Stopped riding bikes when my mate broke his back and got paralysed. Still miss them when the sun is shining.
What is your mateās name?
Phil Davenportā¦he was amateur too but in the end struggled to get enough sponsorship. I used to take pictures for him. At one āHants Grand Nationalā at Matchams he promised he would be at the front of the pack at the first corner as his KTM would out-drag anything else. Sure enough there he was a the front leading Graham Noyce and Brad Lackeyā¦got a good picture for him. He was second/third after about 5 laps but got brought down by a lapped tail-ender and then ridden over by one of the following pack. I took a picture of the back of his jersey with a diagonal tyre track from shoulder to hip.
Love it.
I was probably there. Noyce, Lackey and Malherbe were my heroes at the time and went to Matchams every year.
Not sure if Davenport rings a bell or not. Feels like I know the name but I was/am a glory hunter.
I miss those days; I love the smell of Silkolene in the morning!
