šŸŽµ What are you listening to etc

I’ll give you that - that’s the coolest thing I’ve heard on here.

BUT…going back to my original point, It’s rare to hear a decent song revisited and improved, which was the case with that Buzzcocks cover, for me (the great musical IMO caveat!) it was a poor ghost of the original - and car/beer ads seem to be allowed to commit musical atrocities just for the sake of it.

The problem with all of this is, people like different noises, and we all believe we know best.

How else do you explain the popularity of some stuff that is the musical equivalent of tuneless foxes raping each other while scratching their claws down blackboards?

Thanks Halo, I enjoyed that track. Brought a couple of random songs to mind (even though little similarity) that I haven’t listened to for a while:

Yes, I like that song you posted very much, Lou.

I’ve found this thread very interesting because it has introduced a lot of music that has been previously unknown to me. I reckon my musical taste is, generally speaking, a lot more middle-of-the-road than that of my fellow Sotonians. I tend to favour records that formed the backdrop to my seminal years: 70s pop, 70s disco, punk, new wave, New Romantics, early 80s pop etc. I then went through a long period when I didn’t really listen to much contemporary music at all; and I guess I have my sons to thank for introducing me to more modern stuff. My taste remains fairly eclectic - I include classical and trance music on my iPod - but one thread of consistency is that I’ve always been a sucker for a good female vocalist; and this has been the case ever since I first heard this lady singing this song:

The greatest song ever written

Hey, loads of Smith’s fans here … I still maintain This Charming Man is Jonny Marr’s greatest achievement. Scarily he wrote it when he was 17.

Good article here on the Grauniad … http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2015/jan/21/the-smiths-10-of-the-best
