I keep thinking back to 2013, and the lack of evidence then. I then think of Hillary and her stated intentions in the Middle East. It’s almost as if the same policy ends up getting executed irrespective of the government in the US.
I’ve often claimed that it’s the institutions that persist through the transience of governments or administrations that retain real power. That’s why multinationals have got so big, and probably the reason that Trump ended up ordering this attack. Despite being commander in chief, he has got several masters to please, many of whom would not have been best pleased at the cessation of hostilities in Syria. They’ve already put so much into it.
Even though I disagreed with @coxford_lou over the issue, she was coming from a position of good faith, and a belief in the inherent justice of the Anglo-American cause. The West has let her down, big-style.
The US wanted boots on the ground back in 2013, as did we. One of the few things “Red” Ed Miliband achieved in his time as opposition is stopping that disaster from happening. Getting Western forces to fight alongside jihadist units. The Western media would call these people moderates, but Cameron couldn’t find the 70k he thought existed. With no boots on the ground of their own, the Western/Saudi coalition simply financed the boots that were already there.
We know who these countries are, and we know what their plans are. The US, the UK, Israel and Saudi Arabia all want to see the Middle East balkanised, with their people in the artificially divided states they plan to create in the aftermath. We’ve seen it all before, in Iran in 1953, with Skyes-Picot in 1916 and the allocation of the League of Nations mandate in 1918, not to mention the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.
They want resources, they want land, they want the military industrial complex to keep running and they’ve been doing it for years.
Trump is an Apprentice by comparison. I think this whole episode was him getting schooled.
The man is a fucking lunatic. It comes to something when China are the voice of reason, desperately trying to diffuse tension in the region scared that either N Korea or the USA will go all fuckwit on us and launch some nasty weapons. This is what the Chinese foreign minister said:
“We call on all parties to refrain from provoking and threatening each other, whether in words or actions, and not to let the situation get to an irreversible and unmanageable stage. If a war occurs, the result is a situation in which everybody loses and there can be no winner. It is not the one who espouses harsher rhetoric or raises a bigger fist that will win.”
I still have absolutely no idea to link songs but:
Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” seems to apply to when Trump managed to dodge the draft. But suspect the words will apply to a whole new generation
I was thinking about the similarities between Obama and Trump. Both ran on non-interventionist tickets that also involved not fucking with the Middle East anymore. Both took power and fucked with the Middle East a bit more.
Nice bump Fats, this thread has been very quiet for a while, and if I was a paranoid type, I would suggest Trump is co-ordinating unrest in the Saints dressing room to draw attention away from what he’s been up to.
