:trumpdumb: Trumped!

It’s the old saying @pap

The best form of defence is attack.

It also happens to be very profitable.

There’s a term that has been bandied about in military circles, especially US ones. Full spectrum dominance. Dominating every conceivable aspect of a military operation. I’d argue that the US has been doing full spectrum dominance beyond the military for decades. Institutions like the IMF have been used as economic weapons, outrageous behaviour has not been actionable due to its veto power on the UN Security Council, and to be balanced, I know other Permanent Members of the UN Security Council have vetoed resolutions of international law for their own ends. No other nation’s vetoes have contributed to as much ongoing insecurity.

But as you suggest, war economies make a lot more money than peace economies. We went into Afghanistan and have had our military forces engaged in some miltary action since 2001. You might say we’ve been at war sixteen years. Trump’s aggressive posture toward China and this increase in this military budget probably means we’re going to see a lot more. Meringue-boy may spark the global conflagration. His predecessors facilitated it with all the fires of their own, and believe me when I say that is a euphemism.

Check this out. Truly existential, In my mind, pretty much the only valid reason for war.

Southampton was raided 57 times, and three raids were classified as major attacks. The first bombs fell on 20 June 1940 after which a pattern emerged of strategic daylight raids on aircraft factories, shipyards, docks and railway lines, with occasional small scale attacks on populated areas and sometimes machine gun strafing of streets.

There is a strong folk memory of certain incidents and attacks. These include the leaflet drop,’ A Last Appeal to Reason, by Adolf Hitler’: the sight of Flight Lieutenant J. B. Nicholson baling out of his burning Hurricane over Millbrook, only to be shot by an over excited Home Guardsman: the attack on the International Cold Storage Depot setting alight 2300 tons of butter, which ominously burnt for 9 days: and the harrowing destruction of the Civic Centre School of Art.

In late September heavy raids destroyed the Vickers Supermarine Spitfire factory at Woolston, but amazingly Spitfire manufacture continued through the dispersal of production into a variety of buildings including garages, laundries and bus stations.

The increasing number of attacks ratcheted up the level of fear in the town culminating in three major raids at the end of November 1940. The raids were of similar duration and intensity. They commenced around 6.30 p.m. and lasted between 5 to 7 hours, with 120 bombers streaming in on each raid. The glow of Southampton burning could be seen from as far away as Cherbourg.

Most of the High Street and thousands of homes were destroyed or damaged. Two thousand firemen mobilised from surrounding brigades to reinforce the courageous local fire fighters, but incompatible equipment and lack of water supplies rendered the situation hopeless.

It was Southampton’s darkest hour. Accounts of people’s reaction varied widely ranging from the Southern Daily Echo’s, ‘these people survive today amazingly cheerful, and full of courage’; to Mass Observation unit’s, ‘people are broken in spirit’, and the controversial Hodsall Report (made public in 1973, and heavily refuted) claiming incompetence of the local authorities.

There had been numerous acts of individual heroism, and most people remained defiant. But understandably the most immediate public reaction to the blitz was to vacate the town at night, and for a while ‘trekking’ became a way of life for some people

Taking criticism and provocation is part of life, how ones reacts is quite another thing, a mature society certainly doesn’t react violently.

I see that Trump is looking to increase defence spending and to do so will be cutting foreign aid. That should please his knuckle dragging supporters no end. America first!!!

Talking of Foreign aid I saw on the BBC that the UK has to legally use 0.7% of GDP for this.

Where this law came from I have no idea. So do we have other laws which dictate what the money raised by the government is used for?

the 0.7% figure is a long-standing UN target that the UK made law in 2015. May is now saying that the law will be looked at again before 2020. No one made us pass the law, we chose to and it is to our credit that we did given how few countries have ever hit that UN target.

I dislike Liberals with every politcal bone in my body, watching them squirm on this makes me chuckle.

Donald is having an effect all ready.

Down for nearly every country on the planet, but up 88% for Russia. That might be a bit embarrassing.

He’ll and the Americans will be in the main happy, immigration will be down.

why will immigration go down because tourism has gone down?

I dont think American business people who rely on toursim will be happy will they?

It was a tongue in cheek comment…

May need to add a little emoticon as often sarcasm is hard to put across online.

I think the dry subtlety of humour would be lost on that count.

Dry subtlety of humour? Now that did make me smile. And dont be coy Barry, you are allowed to say “cunt” on here.

p.s. You do know that toursim and immigration are two different things dont you?

They are but as another dry note many come in on tourist visas and never leave…

Given we’ve recently had the Oscars…

Trumps men seem to have been very unfortunate with the people they met and called. Probably just asking about holiday destinations.

Donny Trumpster keeps telling us that it would be a good thing if they got on better wth the Russians. I am certain it has nothing to do in any way with anything concerning his political ambitions or business dealings. No siree. As for the Attorney General, he has meetings all the time. How can he possible remember all of them. I am sure it was just an oversight. Afterall, one Eastern European is much like another.

Bit of a slow day, so let’s have some Pie on Trump.

Worth it just for the Spicer impersonation.
