The New new new manager?

Lots of ifs.
But the one damning observation - it’s easier to play russball - which is why we cannot play 90 minutes - its a holiday camp & they aren’t fit

Shamelessly chopped from Saintslist…

Remeber there was a piece in the National press that a Championship player had directly approached the board and said the manager was not liked. The two teams in the frame were Saints and Leicester. Stephens was not playing for a couplenof weeks after that and Still was sacked within 2-3 weeks.

Look at the players in the team regularly, who were here under Martin. THB, Stephens, Wood, Manning, Downes, Armstrong. Wood hardly ever played under Martin and Armstrong was played wide.

THB and Stephens seem to be the ones who have slowed our play down at the back, resorting to standing on the ball under the guise of drawing players out. When Tonda first came in the centre backs were merely a vessel to move the ball out wide to the full backs. Who may either go into a midfielder or back to a CB before going into midfield, now replaced by the stagnant sideways passing across all three of them. Downes was the pivot who would be the player receiving the ball from the back spinning the ball wide to Scienza or Fellows. Again, he is now static. Manning would also charge down the wing with Scienza coming inside or vice versa, again Manning assumes a position whereby he invariably drop back to recieve an almost sideways pass.

Armstrong still works hard to close down, but without Downes and Manning willing to work hard as well his press is pointless as soon as a midfielder drops in.

So for me THB, Stephens, Manning and Downes, they are key to Tonda’s approach and can derail it instantly.

He needed a new start, for himself and for us. He’s a decent player, doing well in a league that won’t test him as much as the PL. I suspect he is also enjoying playing away from the bizarre inertia that seems to envelope our club and playing strategy. Glad for him as he was a decent servant for us overall, despite moments of madness.

The only statistic we need is how many games have we not won since he was given the job permanently.
