The other 'sex v Hampshire

It is also due to rain from early PM tomorrow so it is possible we will have overcast conditions in the morning, but will lose several hours too.

It’s pissing down here in Bournemouth, is it not the same in Soton then??

Nope it been light drizzle here for a couple of hours but the BBC weather is forecasting the rain to drift NE slightly so it might miss West End in its eastward path.

OK chaps. as you are much nearer this stuff, what are the current permutations.

Theoretically, although 4th at the start of the match I read that we could still be relegated along with everyone else just about.

So what were the permutations? How many bonus points did we need to be safe?

What is happening in the other matches points wise? (I know some were very low scoring.

Basically as there is gonna be sod all cricket except from Chennai at the moment - anyone got any idea?

2 games left

Middlesex 233 & 142 v Lancs 165 & 106/4, Middlesex 1 batting and 3 bowling points, Lancs 3 bowling points
Somerset 269 v Surrey 425/8, Somerset 1 batting and 3 bowling points, Surrey 4 batting and 3 bowling points
Warwickshire 219 & 122/3 v Yorkshire 296, Warks 1 batting and 3 bowling points, Yorkshire 2 batting and 3 bowling points
Hampshire 254 v Essex 76 & 226/3m, Hampshire 1 batting and 3 bowling points, Essex 3 bowling points

So that puts (currently)

Surrey 150
Hampshire 143
Yorkshire 134
Somerset 131
Middlesex 131

16 pts for a win
8 pts for a tie
5 pts for a draw

If scores are equal in a drawn match side batting fourth get 8 points, other team 3 points

I didn’t bother with Warks in the above table as they’ve already been relegated.

Basically we won’t what happens until after these games have finishe, even then we might not.

Oh, last round is

Essex v Yorkshire
Lancashire v Surrey
Somerset v Middlesex
Warkwickshire v Hampshire

So Middlesex won and are up to 3rd

Pos Team Played Won Lost Drawn Tied N/R Bat (Bonus) Bowl (Bonus) Deduct Points
1 Essex 12 8 0 4 0 0 27 34 0 209
2 Lancashire 13 4 3 6 0 0 27 35 0 156
3 Middlesex 13 3 3 7 0 0 28 34 2 143
4 Surrey 12 1 1 10 0 0 42 28 0 136
5 Hampshire 12 3 2 7 0 0 22 30 0 135
6 Yorkshire 12 3 4 5 0 0 22 29 0 124
7 Somerset 12 3 5 4 0 0 21 34 0 123
8 Warwickshire 12 1 8 3 0 0 18 25 0 74

If I was a betting man (and I’m not) I’d go for a Surrey and Yorkshire win. Which would sort of put Hampshire in a very squeaky bum position should no more play be possible.

Sun is out on the west side of town…clearance heading West End way. :lou_lol:

Close of play scores

Division One

Hampshire 254 v Essex 76 & 247-5

Middlesex 233 & 152 v Lancashire 165 & 184 - Middlesex won by 36 runs

Somerset 269 & 113-4 v Surrey 433

Warwickshire 219 & 251 v Yorkshire 296 & 56-3

A Surrey win looks likely, which will put Somerset deeper into the shit, so that’s to be welcomed. In our match, both of yeterday’s centurion and half-centurion (Lawrence and Bopara) have both gone, so that’s very positive from our point of view. Forecast looks good for tomorrow, so a win’s a good possibility. The overs lost today make it very difficult for Essex to build up enough of a lead to win the game I think, and a draw’s a strong possibility too. As the team batting last, I believe we’ll get eight points for the draw, which would be handy.

All to play for.

I’ve just thought, and I must chastise myself for this, the thread title is wrong.

The “other 'sex” suggests that there are only 2 counties that end in sex where in fact there are 3. Now I suppose you could argue that Sussex are in Div 2 so Hampshire wouldn’t be playing them but this could have been a cup competition.

I apologise and promise not to do it again!

Essex 259-7 now. Lead of 81.
