Another wine tasting tonight
Thoroughly recommend Moorooduc Pinot noir from the Mornington peninsula in Victoria. Both Estate wine and Robinson vineyard - some of the best Pinot outside of burgundy
Extremely difficult to find Daftmill Lowland malt 2009 Summer Batch … should probably go in Whisky wanker thread… as its not something to get pished on.
Sainsbury’s own-brand Sauvignon Blanc 3x bottle wine box. Lovely Jubbly. Got a Tesco box of Chardonnay chiling in the wine fridge.
Keeping it classy in Cobham
Going to have to make Slowlane my Sotonians Bestie… Cant be associated with you supermarket jakeys
Remainer elitist x
As we have a few wine knobs on the site would anyone like to start a few "recommended <£20, <30 threads? Would be a good reference.
Since January been buying Steamtown 5.4% West Coast, so it would have been churlish to drink anything else tonight at The Handlebar.
I didn’t.
Tbf, both wine boxes are from South Africa, no doubt shipped in in tankers before filling.
Cheaper than that fancy pants posh Euro shite but still 13%
Brexit bonus?
Hic
It’s getting hard to find decent Pinot at under £20. But Nanny Goat is currently 25% off at Waitrose so now £15.99. A drinkable (relative) NZ cheapie is Mud House

This is a lovely varietal blend - decent value for £18
This is a cracking white blend - same producer £22
Decades ago I had a stopover at a place called Mersault on the way to South of France.
Caravan was in the middles of huge vineyards. Has a meal out in the village that night, and was taken with the local white wine.
Years later back in UK, the price was in double figures.
Looking now the cheapest available seem to be in the £30 to £40.
Don’t think I will be drinking this wine any time soon, but if any of you rich lot give it a go, comes highly recommended.
Great area - stayed in Beaune - cracking town for a weekend
There’s also a sweet white wine from Beaune, I think, which I could get from Chassignelles in Burgundy when I stayed there for five years on the trot, but can’t seem to get it in UK any more. Just as well, because it evaporated very quickly - also other people drunk lots of it as well.
Cant really remember the name of the wine, but it had a nice shaped bottle.
Bllllleeeeaagh! I seem to have woken up in the right house, so thank fuck for that.
The Ayatollah decides to leave me to my own devices for an afternoon in a Suffolk seaside town - why is she so surprised to find me in a pub - what did she think would happen
