At 8:30 in the morning???
Err, no. Things arenât quite that bad. Yet. For some reason wasnât focused enough to post last night.
Didnât you have one of those the other day? I only remember because I was going to comment that in French Salop means bitch.
I drink plenty of Salopian beers, but this was a first. BTW, they deliver nationally. Well worth a try, and no I donât have shares in the company.
Think thatâs the first time Iâve heard anyone outside France know what Salop is in French! As a French speaker, Iâm careful to write my address in full as Shropshire when communicating with the French.
Although they are usually surprised that I get the joke.
Decades ago I visited some castle in Shropshire (canât remember the name), and I remember vividly thinking a walk round the outside would be a good idea.
It was, until I came across some huge black graffiti letters painted on the castle walls, and all it said as âSalop wankersâ.
Back then I was probably outraged by the desecration, but today, I think I would have taken a photo and posted it on here. Who would have thought that all these years later it would have raised a smile, and been useful!
Itâs a lovely day and I have treated myself to my first lunchtime beer is a year sat in the garden
Bliss
I did my industrial year placement in Toulouse, lived in student digs with loads of other French students, the French I learnt was very âargotâ based.
I remeber going to a family meal with the French lecturer who was mentoring me, spoke the best French Iâd learnt, his kids were laughing so hard, the poor wife just looked shockedâŚ
Must look the brewery up, BTW I never knew Salop was short for ShropshireâŚ
In the Thai language âDop Salop Salaiâ which rolls off the tongue nicely, roughly translates as, âYou are asking for a slapâ. Best avoided unless you want a good kicking!
Have to agree! Been for this yearâs first drive with the top down on the MX5 and a great walk on the Long Mynd.
You were probably at Clun or another of the castles on the Welsh border. The sentiment expressed in the graffiti would fit well with our neighboursâ general view of the Salopians.
Have won the Best Beer in Britain Award the last couple of years. For normal drinking I recommend Oracle, Darwinâs Origin or Hop Twister, but there are many more. Polygraph is the strongest of their special Black range, which I think is only available direct from the brewery.
Thatâs one of the first things my French exchange student taught me when I was 12. Along with various other swearing.
Yes - I think it was on or close to the Welsh border (it was like a foreign country back then!).
What made it memorable was the size of the letters, and the fact that I had no idea where (or what) Salop was, and why they might have been wankers!
Cunt. Iâve just got off back to back calls/meetings all afternoon
