The January Transfer Window 2017

Now why do I find this funny

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic says Dimitri Payet will not train with the club after the Frenchman said he wants to leave.

“We have said hundreds of times we don’t want to sell our best players. He’s definitely our best player,” added Bilic.

"That’s why we gave him a long contract, and then a new contract four months later.

"I phoned him with that and he refused to play for us. I have a team to manage.

"He’s probably been tapped up by some clubs or whatever. That is usual at this time of year.

"It started 10 days ago when the window started.

“But until he changes his attitude he is out of the team and he’s not going to train with us. But we are not going to sell him, not whatsover.”

Southampton have contacted Porto for midfielder Sergio Oliveira

Anyone else think Wet Spam are maneuvering to sell Payet so they can afford Jose?

I don’t think they are that clever TBH

There problem is also cannot score so why would they sell the only player scoring for Fonte?

He’s obviously been tapped up…

Aye but Payet will command silly money, Fonte won’t

Fonte isn’t worth silly money, but he wants to be paid silly money.

I am now thinking he may still be with us at the end of the window.

What do we do with him then ?

He cannot still be captain.

Play him ?

Not play him?

Meh I have no idea

Nah agent will have had a fall back plan.

After all football attracts people with brains.

Oh.

If that does happen (and, like you, I can easily imagine it), then everything will depend on conversations between Fonte, Puel and Reed. He’ll certainly lose the captaincy to VVD, which is fine by me; whether he plays will then depend on his willingness to knuckle down and accept that here is where he is and here is where he’ll stay.

The stark realisation that he isn’t top of all the big clubs’ shopping lists (or even those of lesser clubs) may well serve as motivation to stop being a wanker.

Looks like Jose has that seasonal brain worm that got in through his ear. Agents are carriers, unfortunately football is too apathetic and footballers too dim to do anything about it.

It will be an almighty fuck up of immense proportions if his agent doesn’t have a club lined up for him. There may well be a Chinese or even MLS club lined up in the background.

It could be a case that something is actually in place and will gather momentum once we sign a replacement. Especially as it seems that Fonte has been acting like a little bitch since the summer - therefore this won’t have come as a shock to Lesley.

If you look back at other recent contract rebels:

Nathaniel Clyne - Cedric was signed prior to Clyne’s inevitable departure. I recall even reading some quotes about him NOT being Clyne’s replacement and that the club still hoped he would stay. Clearly nonsense but I guess they had to say that to appease the fans.

Wanyama - Romeu was signed in the summer when it had become blindingly obvious that VW would not be signing the new deal that had been on the table for months and months. The club learned this lesson from the aforementioned Clyne situation.

Getting somebody in first before selling tends to prevent the fans and media from having a meltdown and also probably helps keep the fees for replacements down as you can be seen as desperate to sign your man if you have already sold your first choice in that position.

Look at West Ham… even Brentford are mugging them off over the price of a Championship player, because everybody knows how desperate they are for a CF.

Bottom line, I still expect Fonte to leave in this window.

Well I for one I think it’s a good look.

I agree.

Merson* on Soccer Saturday a week or so back, after Fonte had asked to leave, said that Fonte would know where he was going to end up.

His point was that agents as smart as Mendes don’t trash a player’s current contract without knowing exactly what the next one looks like.

*I know, I know.

Yeah I saw that with Merson too but didn’t want to mention just in case you chaps thought that was where I get my football insight from. A man whose only redeemable quality is his inability to pronounce complicated player names!

Seems as you only have 1 vote in the The Gerry Francis’ Mullet Award for the Football Poster of the Year category (yeah I know, 1 more than my good self) it is probably safe to assume that that is exactly where poeple think you get your football “insight” from!!

Ha. To be honest I had no idea what you were talking about as I’d never read that thread.

Sounds like I will either have to stop chatting bollox or maybe start making up a semi-plausible ITK claim to fame. The latter will probably be easier by all accounts.

Speaking of which… my source at Staplewood has given it to me on good authority that Jose Fonte aint happy at the club and wants out. Remember, you heard it here first.
