Villa face Saints competition for Gueye and Praet

Aston Villa are believed to have made a formal offer for Anderlecht youngster Dennis Praet, but face competition from Southampton, who could also hijack a move for Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye was in Birmingham for talks on Thursday after a fee had been agreed with Lille for the midfielder but both Marseille and Southampton are reported to have stepped up their interest too in a bid to prevent the Senegalese moving to Villa Park.

Villa are also thought to have lodged a bid in the region of £7m for 21-year old attacking midfielder Dennis Praet, who impressed in Anderlecht’s Champions League campaign last season.

The young Belgian has already been capped by the senior international side and picked up a WhoScored rating of 7.47 over six Champions League appearances in 2014/15, scoring against Galatasaray as well as picking up one of two assists at home against Arsenal.

Tottenham Are Set To Bid £10m Asking Price For Atletico Madrid Defender

Tottenham are set to bid Atletico Madrid’s £10 million asking price for Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, according to Sky Sports.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will travel to Madrid to lay out a deal for the player who spent a successful season on loan at Southampton during their 2014/15 campaign.

Tottenham will face stiff competition from the Saints – who have a £6.8 million buy option – as they battle to try and complete a permanent deal but it seems the player is keen to link up with Mauricio Pochettino as well as Belgium teammate Jan Vertonghen.

After he played 90 minutes in Belgium’s 4-3 friendly win over France in June, Alderweireld told Sky Sports: “I will go back to Spain next week and we will talk.

“We will see what happens. I hope a decision will be made quickly, otherwise it will be all summer. Let’s see what comes up and I will make a decision. We will see what clubs come in.”

In May this year, Alderweireld admitted he would be interested in joining up with former Ajax centre-back partner Jan Vertonghen at White Hart Lane.

He told Dutch media: “It would be very nice to play again with Jan. The interest has yet to be concrete and finally Atletico must let me go.

“Atletico will decide my future, but I would like to stay in the Premier League. That some of the big clubs show interest proves I’m doing well.”

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is managing to find time to chill out during the close season, despite the whirlwind of speculation surrounding his future.

The France international, aged 25, was at Wimbledon yesterday to take in a bit of tennis.

He was in the crowd to cheer on compatriot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who was in action against Albert Ramos-Vinolas at SW19, from an excellent seat.

Schneiderlin saw Tsonga progress to the next round after a comfortable 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 straight-sets win.

United have reportedly submitted an official bid for the Saints anchorman.

Man Utd submit official bid for Morgan Schneiderlin | Off The Post

Manchester United have lodged a written bid for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, according to the .

The offer is thought to be in the region of £20m.

While the bid firms up United’s interest in the France international, it still falls short of Saints’ £25m asking price.

United boss Louis van Gaal is said to be determined to finalise a deal for the 25-year-old before his squad head to the USA later this month for a pre-season tour.

Earlier this week, Southampton boss Ronald Koeman claimed that his side were yet to receive a for Schneiderlin. That was followed by reports that United had made an approach two weeks ago but that no follow-up contact had been made between the two clubs.

Saints are determined to hold out for a bid that matches their £25m valuation. They showed last summer – in dealings with Tottenham Hotspur – that they are prepared to keep hold of Schneiderlin against his will rather than sell him in a cut-price deal.

Man Utd transfers: Ferdinand claims Schneiderlin to complete move | Football

The France international, who has also been touted as a target for Arsenal, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent days as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his midfield options ahead of his second season in charge at the club.

United are thought to have tabled a £20m bid for Schneiderlin this week as Van Gaal looks to bring the midfielder to the club.

Now, former United defender Ferdinand claims that a deal for Schneiderlin looks set to go through and has backed the Red Devils’ pursuit of the midfielder.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “£20-something million, it looks like it’s going to be done.

“He’s a player who could add something to United, a bit of steel, can pass the ball and play it through the lines from back to front.

“I think he’s a good player, a good addition to the squad, especially if someone like [Michael] Carrick, who is so influential for United, gets injured.

“I think this guy can step in and help buffer that. I think he’s a very good, talented player.”

The Southampton star has scored 15 goals in 260 games in all competitions for the south-coast club over the past seven seasons.

Earlier this week, speculation linking the midfielder with a transfer to United gathered pace when the club’s photographer followed the midfielder on Twitter.

Villa could miss out on Lille star

Southampton have reportedly hijacked Aston Villa’s bid to sign Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye by making a rival £10million offer.

The 25-year-old Senegal international looked all set to link up with Tim Sherwood’s Villa after the club agreed a £9million fee and the player jetted into Birmingham on Thursday to start talks over a move at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground.

However with Gueye yet to agree personal terms, reports claim Southampton boss Ronald Koeman will look to take him to St Mary’s by offering the French Ligue 1 outfit an extra £1million.

Marseille have also joined the race but agent Mark McKay insists the player has set his sights on a move to England so the Saints could now be in the driving seat.

It is thought that Keoman sees Gueye as a quality replacement for France international Morgan Schneiderlin who looks set to leave the south coast as Manchester United and Arsenal continue to jostle for his signature.

Agents Actively Trying To Sell Young Belgium Star To Saints. - Southampton News

Agents Actively Trying To Sell Young Belgium Star To Saints.

The transfer market is a cut throat time of year where the real winners financially are the agents who make large sums for moving on players, now Saints are finding out just how they work. Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg covered up and coming Anderlecht star Denis Praet earlier this week, a player whose name has been linked with Saints.

Het Belang van Limburg believe that the players new agents the Stellar Group rather than sitting back and letting clubs come to them are actively marketing Praet to clubs and encouraging them to make a bid whilst previously both the player and his club have shown no inclination about a move, in effect they are accusing the agency of masterminding the transfer and that can be only for the financial benefit of the agency itself.

Het Belang van Limburg say that the Stellar Group firstly identify which clubs need a player for what position and then push their roster on to those clubs. Part of that strategy seems to be using the media and hence Saints along with Sevilla have been linked with a player that it is being hinted that they have had no previous interest in, at least not in regard to talking to anybody about him.

Having dont that the agency will hope that even if the clubs linked are not interested it will alert others and give the impression that the player is in demand. It is certainly a subtle approach in that the media stories are not intimating that any club is trying to break down Anderlecht’s door, but merely trying to draw out any potential buyers so that the agents can then push the player.

So don’t expect anything to happen too quickly as according to the Belgium newspaper the player himself is in no hurry to leave at present and these opening shots are just that, the Stellar group will now be looking to see what interest they have and then hopefully they can present Anderlecht with a deal on the table from a potential buyer.

Perhaps this gives an insight in to the transfer market at present, the windows mean that agents only have short periods to work in and use the media to full effect, we have seen that in regard to the Toby Aldwereireld situation where it was claimed by media sources that Chelsea were desperate to sign him etc, that has proved false, but it has proved that you should not believe everything you read, the Transfer Window is a stage and we are all actors.

Southampton And Marseille Make Counter Offers For Gueye - Southampton News

Aston Villa must have thought they had Idrissa Gueye in the bag after agreeing a £9 million fee and holding talks with the Lille midfielder on Thursday, but it seems there could be another twist to the tale. According to media reports this morning Gueye has not yet agreed terms with Aston Villa despite visiting Birmingham to do so yesterday amid reports that both Saints & Marseille have made a higher bid to Lille for his services.

Both clubs are said to have upped the bid to £10 million according to the Daily Mail, however its believed that the player favours a move to the Premier League rather than staying in France

Agent Mark McKay, acting for Lille, said: ‘Idrissa has a lot of interest and the pull of Marseille is big for any player in France but the lure of the Premier League should outweigh that.’

That being the case if Saints should truly be interested then they have a lot more to offer than Villa who are a club in turmoil with ownership issues to be resolved whilst on the pitch they had a poor season in the Premier League only escaping relegation on the penultimate game of the season and next years prospects don’t seem much better with mid table at best.

Saints however can offer a possible run in the Europa League as well as looking to improve on last season’s 7th place and in doing so secure a third consecutive top 8 finish.

Steve McMahon: Nathaniel Clyne must hit ground running at Liverpool

England right-back Nathaniel Clyne is a good signing by Liverpool but the former Southampton player will need to hit the ground running at Anfield, according to former club captain Steve McMahon.

The 24-year-old has agreed to a five-year deal with the Merseyside club but McMahon says there’s no guarantee that the former Southampton defender will be an instant success.

“Clyne is a good, young English player with a bright future, but he will find out quickly that Liverpool is a very different kind of club to Southampton,” Malaysia-based McMahon told ESPN FC.

“It’s like a goldfish bowl at Liverpool while at Southampton you can a couple of iffy games and nobody pays that much attention.”

McMahon added that Clyne will need to get forward and help Liverpool score more goals, which was a problem for them last season after the departure of Uruguay international Luis Suarez and injury-plagued campaign of England forward Daniel Sturridge.

“Clyne will be expected to contribute a lot in an attacking sense while taking care of his defensive job,” McMahon said. “He will need find his form quickly because Liverpool must start next season well.”

Clyne is Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer and will join former Southampton teammates Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert at Anfield.

“I think it’s strange that so many Southampton players have joined Liverpool in the last year or so,” McMahon said. “Why can’t Liverpool own scouting system find these kind of players?”

McMahon added that he was looking forward to seeing Livepool’s new-look squad in the game against the Malaysia Select XI at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on July 24.

Spotted: Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs target Morgan Schneiderlin arrives in London after bid

MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN has been enjoying the tennis at Wimbledon - and showing support for Andy Murray’s rival Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Schneiderlin has admitted he wants to leave Southampton for a Champions League club this summer.

Manchester United are interested in the France midfielder, while Arsenal and Tottenham have also been linked with him.

But Schneiderlin put his transfer talk to one side yesterday to show support for compatriot Tsonga.

The former Strasbourg man was in attendance at SW19 to see Tsonga, 30, dismiss Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the third round.

“Allez @tsonga7 #Wimbledon2015,” Schneiderlin tweeted from court No 1.

United boss Louis van Gaal is a fan of the dynamic 25-year-old midfielder and has reportedly lodged an official bid worth £20million for his services.

But United are also waiting on a signal from Bayern Munich ace Bastian Schweinsteiger over a £10m move to Old Trafford.

Spurs failed with two bids for Schneiderlin last summer, who was forced to stay at St Mary’s.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also considered a move for the Frenchman but is thought to been put off by the emergence of defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin, 24.

Aston Villa flustered by Saints’ £10m Gueye bid as Man Utd target Schneiderlin

Lille have already accepted Villa’s offer but the Mail claim personal terms have yet to be finalised and Saints, along with Marseille, are keen to capitalise on the delay.

Gueye, 25, was at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground yesterday to begin negotiations over a £9m transfer.

“Idrissa has a lot of interest and the pull of Marseille is big for any player in France but the lure of the Premier League should outweigh that,” he said.

According to reports, both clubs have offered Lille an additional £1m to sign the midfield star, although agent Mark McKay, acting for Lille, is quoted as saying the lure of England means Marseille are unlikely to get their man.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is keen to add to his squad and looks likely to have to replace Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield.

The France international has been linked with a move to Manchester United or Arsenal this summer and while the Red Devils remain favourites for the player, a bid is yet to be made.

One man eyed as a possible replacement is PSG’s Yohan Cabaye, who looks set to return to the Premier League after leaving Newcastle in January 2014.

The Paris club are open to selling Cabaye, 29, and will reportedly accept a fee lower than the £19m paid for him 18 months ago - although West Ham are also keen on the player.

Kelvin Davis: Southampton can cope with player exits

KELVIN Davis insists Saints will have no problem coping with any high-profile departures from the club this summer.

Despite losing their manager and a string of key players 12 months ago, Saints recovered to produce their best ever Premier League season and also qualify for Europe.

This summer has been a significantly smoother one so far, with the early focus having been on adding to the squad, rather than dealing with stars who want out.

That said, the club did lose Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool this week, while Manchester United remain interested in Morgan Schneiderlin, and there is also uncertainty about whether Toby Alderweireld can be brought back from Atletico Madrid.

If there are more significant departures, club captain Davis believes the structure in place at St Mary’s will help them to prevail - as they did a year ago.

“Obviously, you don’t ever like to see your better players go, but we’re a club with that experience as well and we’ve shown that what we do behind the scenes and what the guys do in the scouting department and what the manager’s got up his sleeve has proven last season that we can cope,” he said.

“So we like to think that will be the case again this season.”

Clyne completed a £12.5m move to Liverpool on Wednesday, with Saints effectively forced into a position where they had to sell, as the right-back did not wish to extend his contract, which was entering its final year.

Davis was disappointed to see the 24-year-old England international leave, but wished him well, adding that the club had done a lot for him.

“I think Clyney, since the time he’s been here, has enjoyed the resources of this football club, having a fantastic place to play football and to grow, not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well,” said Davis.

“You never want to see your better players go, but, at the same time, you understand that it happens and we’ve proven before that we can move on after that situation.”

While Saints would like to have kept Clyne, it is unlikely his loss will be felt as acutely as if Schneiderlin goes.

The club have received one approach from Manchester United already this summer, but that was described only as a “lowball offer”, and they are not believed to have been in touch since testing the water with that enquiry about two weeks ago.

Davis, who would love the France international to stay, said: “He’s his own man, he’s been here some time as well, and he’s done a lot for the club, so whatever decision he makes will be his decision.

“When all’s said and done, if he’s here that’s fantastic. If he’s not, then we wish him well and hope that it’s the best situation for the club.”

Davis added that the feeling around St Mary’s this summer is much different to last year.

While a significant amount of that is down to the current board having been in place a full season, giving them a chance to prepare thoroughly for this summer and not have to fire-fight to some extent, Davis also believes the stability provided by manager Ronald Koeman has played a huge part, in contrast to the uncertainty that surrounded the position of his predecessor, Mauricio Pochettino, before he walked out to join Tottenham.

“One insight was even when the manager pulled me in his office and told me he was going to play Paulo [Gazzaniga] in the Aston Villa game and the Leicester game [towards the end of last season], the key thing was he was telling me he was planning for next season,” said Davis.

“So to know it was in the manager’s mind to be here and fully committed, of course it is a different feeling from last year.

“We need to move on from what we did last year and we’ve done that successfully for the last few seasons.

“By having the management here and the staff should keep that continuity and keep the club moving where it wants to go.”

Aston Villa to join race with Southampton for Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool target

Praet, who is set to leave Anderlecht this summer for a fee in the region of £10million. While Southampton are considering a move for the highly-rated 21-year-old, Villa have made an inquiry about a possible offer, according to The Guardian. The Premier League duo are not the first English teams who have been alerted to Praet’s availability.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool were linked with the youngster last year after his agent revealed he would leave Belgium at the end of this season. The player’s agent, Jacques Lichtenstein told Sport Voetbal magazine: "What could he learn from another season in Belgium after several campaigns at European level and having contributed to three consecutive league titles? "Clubs like Valencia, Liverpool, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are all interesting but Dynamo Kiev are not.

"Dennis should go to a team where they play good football. "He is not far from the level of a club like Arsenal, if they could give him a year’s adjustment period. "But I will never push a player in a direction of a transfer. “You can make a career of twenty years without a having a long term vision.”

United’s £20m Schneiderlin bid rejected for now | ZapSportz

MANCHESTER United have bid £20 million for Morgan Schneiderlin – but Southampton have turned it down. The Saints are demanding closer to £25 million.

But France midfielder Schneiderlin’s move to Old Trafford is growing ever closer, with Arsenal dropping out after declining to bid anywhere near the £25m asking price.

Yet his move to United “looks like it’s going to be done”, according to club legend Rio Ferdinand.

Zapsportz.com can confirm from Arsenal that Arsene Wenger has cooled his interest in Schneiderlin (pictured). He simply, doesn’t want to pay so much for a midfield player, as that area of his squad is so well covered at The Emirates.

Ferdinand now believes that a deal could be close, and he’s surely right.

“£20-something million, it looks like it’s going to be done,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that the club are yet to receive “a serious offer” from United, but United think that £20 million IS a serious offer.

Not so Koeman,as the south coast club are determined to hang out for the full £25 million asking price.

A compromise is sure to be sorted out, sooner rather than later.
