Vote for your Player of the Month

Show/hide article…

We’ve chosen our four nominees – now it’s up to you to decide which Southampton star wins the Under Armour Player of the Month award for September.

It was a wonderful couple of weeks for Saints, as they won four consecutive matches, while also earning a draw in their Europa League trip to Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

As a result, there were plenty of impressive individual performances, but we’ve whittled the list down to four for you to choose from.

Charlie Austin enjoyed a superb couple of weeks, scoring five times in the space of four matches, kick-started by his brace in the 3-0 Europa League win over Sparta Praha.

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster also had a month to remember, keeping five clean sheets, with his late save from Gylfi Sigurdsson preserving an important 1-0 Premier League victory over Swansea City.

Also playing a key role in the impressive defensive run was centre-half Virgil van Dijk, who has been nominated for the second month in succession.

Rounding off the nominations is midfielder Oriol Romeu, who has been a magnificent presence in the centre of midfield.

Højbjerg thanks Saints fans

Show/hide article…

The midfielder has been extremely impressed by the backing the team receives from its supporters and was moved to speak about them after Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Leicester City.

"It’s not a coincidence that you can hear them,” he said.

"We were in the stadium of the champions from last year. Last week we were in West Ham, a big stadium with 60,000, and the fans you could hear were the ones from Southampton.

"This support helps us being on and being ready for the games and helps us get through really tough moments.

“It’s fantastic, they’re doing fantastic, they’re helping the team and all together, the whole club, I hope we will achieve something good this season.”
