šŸŽµ Sotonian's Musical Chain

Yeah I have 3 of their albums. Mixed bag some of them but some great tracks.

I thought this had been directed by Vaughan Oliver, but turns out its Chris Bigg who I think also worked at v23

Well, i’m still in love with Kim Deal

Double connection, both the title and both songs were produced by Steve Albini. Rid of Me is his masterpiece, discuss

Like for the song/PJ, not Albini - fuck that (albeit talented) piece of shit.

I reckon Secret Name by Low.

And here’s…

Steve Albini is a great producer of metal music. This is not PJ Harvey’s finest hour to be honest. She’s been around for over 20 years and fashions come and go.

I’m not sure I’d call most of what he’s produced metal. I wasn’t really talking about the quality of the music on Rid of Me, more the production, the sense of space and clarity of the instruments blows me away. More than anything he knows how to engineer and place mic’s to get particular effects. Nirvana’s In Utero is another example of taking a band that don’t sound particularly special (sonically, not talking about the music itself) to a totally other level.

One of the most thrilling things on the internet is monitoring the Musical Chain thread, seeing that two people are replying, and waiting to see who’s going to get gazumped.

Fair play mate, that’s the thing about music is it’s subjective. Thanks for the explanation. I always thought of Albini as a rock producer.
