James Carr was one of the greatest soul singers who ever walked the earth (at least in my opinion), but he never achieved great fame. Well, any fame at all, really. He suffered throughout his life from crippling stage fright, rendering him pretty much incapable of performing live. Check out his recordings and you’ll certainly see why I love him as I do.
