I’ve never had a problem with pushing morality aside. The thing that I, and most men would have a problem understanding is the motivation of women for entering into this trade. Many would simply be happy to do it as a regular job, while others might see it as the only option, what with the possibility of flexi-time, lack of other alternatives combined sometimes with a less than stellar education. I just don’t think that many men would see that far past their dicks. Just take a look at the news and see what some of the men in power think of outwardly innocent looking asian whores through their cocain goggles. We are talking about politicians and lords here, not common men.
As a university academic I’m ashamed to say that some in my profession believe they should be disciplining students involved in sex work, on the grounds that they “put the universities’ reputation at risk.”
The only people causing reputational damage to universities are those advocating such vaultingly pompous nonsense.

I think you’re doing men a disservice here. Corrupt people are corrupt, male or female. Moralisers can be equally male or female. The only way to find out people’s motivation is to ask. But to ask without the assumption that people are unhappy.
That’s not to say I don’t have an issue with the fact most people in power are men from privileged backgrounds, but that’s a whole different conversation.
I initially found it on a news link but if you google Amensty and decriminalisation of prostitution you should get plenty of links to the articles. I havent read The Guardian article yet but will try and find that tomorrow.
The anti decriminalisation stance remindeds me of Michael Palin’s wonderful film, The Missionary and the Bishop’s (Denholm Elliott) instruction - “Go out amongst the prostitutes, Fortescue. Find out what they do and why they do it, and stop them from doing it!”
woah is it true that birds is always DTF, and if so, why ain’t I getting my Fair Share?
I’m interested in Lou’s Views tho (“Lou’s Views” should be a thread title or tv show btw). I want to know if she agrees more with the Science Woman, or the Telegraph Woman’s rebuttal!

Oh, this article will make Lou Lou’s blood boil!!
It’s all your fault for wanting a career Lou…
Doesn’t make my blood boil, I just think she massively out of touch with modern women and their sexual exploits.
I will try and respond in greater detail this evening, if modern women and their sexual exploits is a topic that’s of any interest to any of you.
yeah I suppose I could just about stand to hear a detailed expose of modern women’s sexual exploits + pictures pls
Are you sure? Don’t feel you need to say that just to be polite. I’d much rather you just be honest.
No pics though, as I’ll need to keep my research evidence anonymous (ie my friendship base of 25-40 good looking, career focused, London based women.)

I think she’s also detached from some the worst of the reality of a “male sex deficit.” Nowhere is that deficit more apparent than among ISIL’s so-called ‘warriors’. In a region where male attitudes to women are stone age, Islamic State has fully institionalised the worst of all abuses, and melded paedophilia, enslavement and prostitution into one single nightmare for women and girls.
This New York Times article details the full horror of it, but here’s a sample:
One 34-year-old Yazidi woman, who was bought and repeatedly raped by a Saudi fighter in the Syrian city of Shadadi, described how she fared better than the second slave in the household — a 12-year-old girl who was raped for days on end despite heavy bleeding.
“He destroyed her body. She was badly infected. The fighter kept coming and asking me, ‘Why does she smell so bad?’ And I said, she has an infection on the inside, you need to take care of her,” the woman said.
Unmoved, he ignored the girl’s agony, continuing the ritual of praying before and after raping the child.
“I said to him, ‘She’s just a little girl,’ ” the older woman recalled. “And he answered: ‘No. She’s not a little girl. She’s a slave. And she knows exactly how to have sex.’ ’’
“And having sex with her pleases God,” he said.
It may seem marginal to the debate about decriminalisation in Britain, but it isn’t. Any new legislation needs to distinguish carefully between unfree and free labour, and gradations of unfree labour. Otherwise we’re giving a free pass to male violence of the worst kind.

The trouble is, I haven’t read her full view, only this article which is someone else’s interpretation on it. When she talking about ‘modern women’ I’m assuming I know who she’s referencing, but I don’t really know. And because I’ve got zero respect for these small snippets of opinion, I’m not sure it’s worth the effort seeking her full opinion.
The example you’ve quoted is as much about culturally acceptable behaviour as it is sexual desire/needs.
“Culturally acceptable behaviour” means what, though, Lou. You’re treading on dangerous ground once you start to unpack that…
Well, yes. What I mean is my first impression on reading that story is: that is someone behaving in an inhumane way to a person he has no respect for, or is required to have respect for.
Rather than, a man acting because he has a base need for something that he’s being denied.
If that makes sense.
This thread probably got a bit too serious for my ‘Lou’s view’ reponse to Dr Catherine Hakim… I’ll save that for another time!
Just read this. An interesting account of what it is like from a sex worker. Obviously this does not account for every sex workers experience, but suggests some of the common myths aren’t always the case.
