Saints V Man Utd Away Build up and Match day thread

Man U make me sick I need a few more beers

must be hard to commentate when you are wearing read shirt and loving them sooooo very much

We tend to spread the goals around in our 7th and 6th place finish. I do agree that we need a “fit” striker, but if we could get JRod or Austin fully fit, that would be it.

Tonight we have not tested the keeper enough tonight, but we look pretty good.

My main concern is the sloppy midfield. We need a big signing in there to get that right.

Impressed in terms of game control. They are playing on counter but we need to be quicker and ruthless when we attack.

Penalty incident…the angle from rear 3/4 shows Shaw kicks the back of his own leg…20 seconds.

Fantastically worked offside goal. But apart from that, did not look like scoring. Fair result and plenty of good football from us.

On to Sunderland and the weekend off.

To be honest we didn’t roll over.

2 easy goals for Manure though - although you wouldn’t know it from the Sky commentary.

we looked weak in midfield and lacked a convincing striking capability.

Suspect we’ll do better against the “smaller” clubs, but to improve on last year we need to take points off the “bigger” clubs.

Did we get a corner at all?

Nothing happening in the front third of the pitch when the ball is out wide whoever is in the box is to static allowing for easy defending.when it eventually gets crossed in.

Worrying performance. Body language didn’t look good to me.

There were about 6/7 Man U fans at the front who did not even celebrate the penalty goal, as they were to busy recording it for you tube. For fucks sake, live for the moment everyone!

We won at Man U, Spurs and Chelsea last season and drew at Liverpool and Arsenal. We also beat Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool at home. I feel we will find it hard to get 20 points in these 8 games this season and compete in Europe. We have a good team, but a limited squad. Mid table for me this season or better if our squad stay fit, our strikers get fit, or we add quality in midfield, which we lost in the form of Wanyama!

They’re talking about the pen incident on Sky at the moment. They replay it in slow motion and it’s so clear Clasie doesn’t clip him…doesn’t touch him…his right leg kicks the back of his left. It’s so clear…the elephant in the room…which they totally ignore. :lou_facepalm_2:

Mid table but I am not arsed as I hate the premiership with a passion, we are a stepping stone and what is the point of that?
If the club came out and said it I’d respect them and the players an awful lot more, the glass ceiling was reached and that’s it.

They have said it. Les Reed called us a showcase club last year.

I haven’t lived in Southampton for a few years, my support is unconditional though, it’s a given.

The worst thing about losing to Utd is getting gloating calls and texts from people in Southampton who now are lifelong United fans

We are a pretty good club who should be in the premier league for a number of years. I am loving watching Saints, we play football the right way. We are a sensible club, who nearly went out of business. We are run the correct way and do not live outside our means. I am looking forward to seeing us in Europe like a kid at Christmas. If we could grab a trophy, that would top it for me.

if you cannot enjoy watching us now, then you never will.

What does that mean? He needs to say what is apparent, we are a stepping stone and this is as good as it gets, the best we can achieve is the same now and that won’t happen, that’s maybe mournful but its also the truth.

It means we showcase talent…players come here to show their talent…to bigger clubs…a stepping stone, if you will.

Thankfully I couldn’t hear the commentary where I was watching the game, from what I’ve read seems like it was a total Man Utd fap-fest by Sky. I think we’ll be ok, I’ll be amazed if we repeat our top six efforts of last season but I don’t think we’ll struggle.
