Relegation fight?

In a strange way I enjoyed the old annual will we / won’t we go down relegation scrap.

Hell, I even enjoyed watching us in League 1

We’ve gotten used to doing well recently so have forgotten how to handle the bad times.

Whatever happens, I’ve buckled up for the ride.

Its the delusion that gets me.

Wemarchon,

Into the top 6/7,

Our way,

Philosophy,

Academy bringing in new talent

Its as lazy as it is bollocks.

If we don’t show some Fight, then it will be Relegation.

No team is too good to go down, we’ll go down if we Think we are too good instead of showing that we are too good.

Enough wisdom from me tonight. So Goodnight.

This. Even if we did get relegated, Saints will still be playing football, a game that I enjoy watching. Yes you want to compete at the highest level, but it is likely that we will be relegated again one day. Win a tin pot and we will all be happy. Relegation does not really bother me, even though I prefer not to go down, if we did, there will be next season.

Used to love the relegation battles, they really did put you through it, but boy looking back they were great for excitement. I would say almost on par with winning something. You have won the right to stay in the top flight. We used to celebrate like we had won the league.

I do feel we have been spoilt over the last 8+ years, but just get the feeling that the ‘good times’ might have passed in the league.

saying this, win the cup, string a few results together and we can start next season in Europe and in the premier league, all ready to go again!

I just cannot see us going down, I really cannot. 7 points and a much better goal difference and the teams between us and the bottom 3 still have to win 3 games, without us getting a thing… just not going to happen… is it? :lou_wink_2:

I couldn’t give two shits about where and what level we play, I just don’t want shite spouted from the echelons of the club, its pathetic and demeaning, I would respect them more if they said

“We can’t compete with the elites and there is no way we’re able to with the structure we have, Champions League football is for Renton and Sick Boy to believe as pray tell how can it happen and we’ll listen, we’re a mid table team and we’ll buy players who’ll stay the distance or try to”

They obviously believe we can, for whatever reason, I do not know. When we got to the cup final in 2003, I said to Mrs Sfcsim “this is the best it gets, it will not get any better than this”. I did not quite envision how wrong it would go in such a short space of time, but it did.

I said these same words again, when I took that photo and started the ‘European Tour’ thread. “It is not going to get much better than this, yes we will have a few European games, but in the league, it will not get any better”. Ok we have another cup final, but it was a cup final last time that started the decline… you have to wonder if you should be careful of what you are wishing for, is history repeating? (Not administration and league 1, but you know what I mean)

We’re selling more quality than we’re buying so we’re getting worse that is 100% undeniable.
We also have a terrible manager but he has been let down hugely by Reed.

Fair point, but I can’t think of a club that doesn’t spout shite to its supporters on one level or another. They’re all as bad as one another.

Last time I wrote Marco Silva in Puel out on here I got a down vote

I recall Moyes saying Sunderland were in a relegation fight - in August. That has worked well for them

I’ve always held to the old cliché that prior to reaching 40 points EVERY team is fighting to avoid relegation. There’s no denying Saints have been struggling for results recently, and I think it’s complacent to think we’re too good to go down. Next week’s game against Sunderland is massive for us, I feel.

Could some people be a bit sharper about the actual league table, so when Hull are beating Liverpool they don’t cheer, but realise it could be a small disaster for us?

We are not in a battle with them, or Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs, or even Everton.

When clubs beneath us beat those guys - it is not good!

Are we anticipating a rule change to the number of goalies teams can play as I know talented Mr Reed is always thinking , planning and working ahead of the curve. Is this a new strategy or can they play as sweepers so we need fewer CB’s. I think he may have got confused with something Pep said.

I count 5 now but I may have missed some

Many a poor season in my day was helped by the fans lifting the team even when we were playing poorly. U all have a part to play #AsOne

Exactly this. It is easy to support a team when things are going well. Its when things are going badly that the support is really needed. Not alll of this name calling and slagging people off, but getting behind everyone at the club and trying to lift morale. Having said that, perhaps relegation wouldnt be such a bad thing, at least we would get shot of a load of plastics.

Not a snowballs chance in hell that the fans will help. The last six years of success has created a sense of entitlement that will not go away easily.

And to the fat cunt who borrowed his mates season ticket and sat next to / on me - if you have nothing positive to say from the minute you sit down until you leave - just fuck off and do something else. The only moments peace we all got was when you were shovelling three foot of sausage roll into you fat gob.

I had two old blokes behind me yesterday moaning throughout, and talking utter bollocks - it was like Waldorf and Statler on a day out from the Muppet Care Home for the Terminally Ignorant.

There is definitely zero patience around the place these days and some people need to remember why they are there - and where we have come from.

Sure, the players need a kick up the arse occasionally, but continually slagging them off doesn’t help - as we slip down the table they need us with them.

# SaintsFC are chasing Martin Caceres (free), after they were not convinced by Philippe Mexès (free). (Di Marzio)

Martin Caceres is a free agent after being let go by Juventus last summer and as a result can be signed outside the transfer window.

The central defender was reportedly close to joining AC Milan last month, but despite completing a medical, the move broke down due to Caceres’ wage demands.

And now the Uruguay international is said to be weighing up offers from two Premier League clubs, thought to be Southampton and Sunderland.
