Influential doesn’t equate to original though. Everyone who has strummed a note has picked up influences on the way. Influential is overrated…as is popular. My favouites and your favourites is what’s important. :lou_lol:

Want a discussion or a flame war?

I’d prefer the former, but can do the latter, especially if hypocrisy is your thing.

SpiceGirls could of course, why not? Music is subjective and their legacy of pop girl power will live longer than many, Dire Straits are so middle of road, in our house growing up it was ACDC, Motorhead, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Hendrix, CCR etc etc, good rock music, simple really.

Not my problem, give me some

I’ve done the discussion just because you chose not to respond…

Just for clarification (and to ensure there’s no wilful misinterpretation) Ken Loach is the hypocrite.

Have you even checked the distribution details?

Nah, but just lay accusations of hypocrisy anyway because what you imagine might have happened.

I ruddy love the Radioheads. Not everything they’ve done, but that’s fine when it’s a band that takes risks. For me they’re a bit like Bowie; not innovating exactly but but taking outsider music and making pop out of it. Kid A is a work of brilliance. And I hope that their most recent one is their last - it sounds valedictory and it deserves to be that kind of statement.

You’re so pretty when you’re on your knees, disaffected and eager to please. However, I think you should practice what you preach and take this to the beef thread.

I take it you were referring to @pap rather than @dinger ? Would be a bit of a harsh response to Dinger’s post otherwise

I thought the same at first, but how would @tokyo-saint know if @pap was on his knees or not?

A man singing falsetto is Cultural Appropriation imo, and tantamount to Black Face. They need to sack Thom Yorke and get an actual woman to sing the woman parts, and also stop bombing palestine. Only then can we take Radiohead srs or call off the Fatwa.

A good point, well made. I never thought anyone would stoop so low but Yolo Swaggins short changed me.

Faaarrrk me! Who would have though a bunch of hairy scrotes of a certain aging class would be arguing about what makes a decent band/ music… surely a unique event in be history of the fucking universe. (Excuse my language as am stuck for next few hours in the BA lounge at T5 drinking free everything I can consume)

listen tou ignorant argumentative fuckers, the appreciation of music and bands comes down to some very simple fucking principles.

  1. You don’t have to fucking enjoy/like something to appreciate or respect what a band/ artist have contributed to the scene - like any art form it’s subjective with respect to whether you like it or not. I don’t like Renaissance paintings but that does not diminish their artistic merit or influence on subsequent generations of paintings.

I would rather stick a fucking fish hook in my glans and rip it out whilst pouring acid on the open wound than listen to more fucking ABBA, but anyone who is a musician and knows about melody , chord progressions and rhythm will appreciate the complexity and brilliance of their song writing and ability of the ladies to sing those songs correctly…

… most folks who dont appreciate Dylan seem to stumble when asked why beyond his grating voice

point is, ones personal like has fuck all to do with an assessment of quality.

  1. You don’t have to love every thing an artist has ever done

A classic that most folks grow out of when around 13. There is something fucking disturbing when your have to admit to yourself that you fav band has released something you can’t get or you believe is utter shit… it happens, but all decent artists will do this because they are NOT writing stuff to appeal to fans but to satisfy their own artistic exploration- it may well turn out they hate it themselves but it’s part of the creative process to push your boundaries and expectations - sometimes It works sometimes it does not, but the only failure is those ignorant cunts who churn out more of the same to milk the ignorant cunts who buy thier records… once original artists with integrity, now corporate fuckers exploring their own legacy… (See what the cunting Stones did since about 1970)

Its why Dylan, Young even great song writers like Steve Earle are so highly respected, because if you review their catalogues it’s full of reinvention, switching genres and pissing off their existing fans in to challenge themselves

anyway, I fucking love Radiohead - hate some of the stuff they have done, but they get my utmost respect for being creative and doing what they want, not what is expected or what will lead to greatest commercial success.

Pip has the right idea at Speech Development Records - the motto for their whole stable is the wise observation -

we may not be for you.

The problem is we all think we know what is best musically, and the sooner the rest of you realise that I alone am correct about these things, the better.

Everyone is different.

If my missus is feeling down the last thing she want to hear is quiet reflective music…on the other hand I like to wallow in my misery. :lou_lol:

shit soz accidental vote down. You counting Pap points? If so, I will give you 5 at random times as penance.

I’m almost certain I’ve explained this before, but there are precisely two types of music.

**Dog music ** is easy to like, jumps up all over you, licks your bollocks and likes to be liked first time.

**Cat music ** says fuck you, I’m doing my own thing, I don’t care if you like me or not. I’'m a fucking killer.

**Cat music ** beats dog music paws down.
