Jamie Vardy mocks Kasper Schmeichel with classic Inbetweeners impression

Show/hide article…

“Oh, Danish friends!” Vardy coos to the amusement of both sets of players in the St Mary’s tunnel.

On the pitch it was Southampton who had the last laugh as the hosts ran out 3-0 winners.

Goals from Jay Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse had given Southampton a 2-0 lead at the break before Dusan Tadic scored from the spot to round off a convincing win.

After netting 24 times to lead Leicester City to their first ever Premier League title last season, Vardy has scored just five times in all competitions so far this season.

Jaïdi: We expect a big challenge

Show/hide article…

Spurs currently sit 10th in the Premier League 2 table, two points behind Saints in 8th, and Jaïdi knows that victory will help his side move clear of the table’s bottom pack.

“We expect a big challenge,” he started.

“They are a team that are always tough to play against and have some very good individual players, so it will be a good test for our boys.

“Despite the league position of both teams, we are looking to develop players first. But this game could also be important in that aspect as well.

“We need points and so do they, so it’s another motivation for the players to make them challenge for the game even more.”

Jaïdi will once again have Ryan Seager at his disposal, after the striker returned from a long-term injury in the previous league game against Reading.

And his presence will be much welcomed in the Saints camp, as Jake Flannigan, Marcus Barnes and Olufela Olomola all remain side lined through injury.

“We are recovering them one by one,” Jaïdi explained.

“We will always try to give game time to each one of them as they come back, in coordination with the strength and conditioning coaches.

“So hopefully we will get more of them back training with the team soon and then we can look to give them some minutes.”

Hold on to it! Which Premier League keepers drive fans mad most by punching the ball out?

Show/hide article…

FANS and pundits often complain when goalkeepers punch the ball instead of attempting to catch it - so who does it most?

Looking at official Premier League statistics from this campaign, one shot-stopper is out on his own in terms of most punches, with 21 so far.

Only five other keepers are in double figures this season while Liverpool , Everton, West Ham and Leicester have two in the top 23.

Manchester United’s first choice David De Gea does not make the cut, having only punched the ball twice all campaign.

Southampton close in on signing of Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli

Southampton are close to agreeing a deal to sign Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli for £17m, according to Sky Italia.

`The deal currently being discussed is £13.6m plus £3.4m in add-ons for the 25-year-old forward, who has been capped six times by Italy.

The Saints are reportedly offering Gabbiadini a four-year contract worth £40,000 a week, with Napoli set to get a 10 per cent cut of any sell-on fee.

Gabbiadini previously played for Atalanta, Bologna on loan and Sampdoria before joining Napoli in the January 2015 transfer window.

Southampton are apparently keen to add an extra option up front, having lost Charlie Austin to injury until the spring.

Southampton set to stun Premier League rivals with £17m deal agreed - reports

Show/hide article…

Gabbiadini has been linked with several Premier League sides in recent weeks. Everton, West Ham, West Brom, Sunderland, Stoke and Watford have all been linked with the 25-year-old. But Sky Sports claim Southampton are poised to beat their rivals to the Italian’s signature.

They report that the deal is currently being discussed with the Saints set to pay £13.6m plus £3.4m in add-ons. Gabbiadini will be handed a four-year contract worth £40,000-a-week and Napoli will net 10 per cent of any potential sell-on fee.

Gabbiadini, who has won six caps for Italy to date, has scored five goals in 19 appearances for Napoli this season. Southampton want him to provide attacking cover following Charlie Austin’s long-term shoulder injury. Jay Rodriguez’s future at St Mary’s is also in doubt.

Vokins receives England call up

Show/hide article…

The 16-year-old left back has been called up to the England set-up for the competition that will run from the 5th to the 15th of February.

In that time the England youth side will play fixtures against Germany, Portugal and Netherlands.

This will be Vokins’ second call up for the national side, having previously represented England Under-15s.

“It means a lot, obviously,” said Vokins.
