Liverpool are prepared to smash their transfer record to land both Thomas Lemar and Virgil van Dijk.
But the Reds are running out of time to land their two remaining targets.
Liverpool are still trying to persuade Monaco to sell Lemar, having had a £57.4million bid rejected, and are willing to pay £70million for the France star.
Lemar, who scored 14 goals and made 17 assists last season for the Ligue 1 champions, is understood to be keen on a move to Anfield.
Liverpool are fast running out of time and Lemar is with Didier Deschamps’ France squad preparing for tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Holland at the Stade de France.
Liverpool, who are completing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s £40million switch from Arsenal, are also on standby, waiting for the nod from Southampton to begin talks over van Dijk.
The Reds have had to tread very carefully since officially ending their interest in the Dutch centre-half in June, but would jump at the chance to make him the world’s most-expensive defender at over £70million.
They will only act if encouraged by Southampton and Saints are adamant van Dijk is not for sale, despite him wanting to leave.
The odds on these deals happening are lengthening with each passing hour and Liverpool are more likely to be involved in outgoing transfers.
Wolfsburg are prepared to pay a £6million loan fee to sign Divock Origi for the rest of the season and cover his wages.
Liverpool are also keen to move to misfits Lazar Markovic and Mamadou Sakho.
Southampton are ‘99.9 per cent’ certain of keeping hold of Virgil van Dijk with a ‘ridiculous’ offer needed for them to even consider letting him go.
The Dutch defender has made no secret of his desire to leave St Mary’s this summer, informing the club of his desire to move on in July, but his club have maintained he is not for sale despite interest from Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Liverpool’s interest has been the most serious, with the Anfield club finding themselves in hot water earlier in the summer after being accused of tapping up the 26-year-old.
Van Dijk has trained away from his team-mates for much of the summer, with Liverpool once again leading the interested parties as the end of the transfer window approaches.
However, Southampton believe they will keep the player they signed from Celtic in 2015, with only an astronomical offer likely to force them to consider changing their stance.
If the defender does remain at St Mary’s, captain Steven Davis has insisted he will be welcomed back into the team by his colleagues.
‘The door has never been shut on Virgil,’ Davis said.
'We will welcome him back. I’m sure if he came back into the team everybody would see the quality he’s undoubtedly got.
‘He is popular in the dressing room and has been a massive player for us. Hopefully we’ll keep him as it will make our squad stronger.’
Southampton are entitled to 10 per cent of the profit Arsenal have made from selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool.
The Gunners paid £12million for the midfielder and sold him to the Reds for £40million.
That means Arsenal’s profit is £28million and the amount due to Southampton is £2.8million.
Speaking about his new signing, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “I am really, really happy we have got Alex signed.
“I hear a lot of talk about positions but let’s talk about the player; he is someone with really good abilities who always gives everything for his team. A player that is positive and willing to take risks to try and make positive things happen.
“He may still be young but he has a lot of experience in the Premier League, Champions League and for his country. Already he is a very, very good player and I think he has the mentality and desire to get even better - and that excites me.
Oxlade-Chamberlain signed a five-year deal with Liverpool after rejecting contract offers from Arsenal and Chelsea.
Virgil van Dijk’s dream of leaving Southampton for a bigger club may finally be coming true - at least that’s what Liverpool fans currently believe.
The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield since the very start of the summer.
Any sort of transfer did appear to be off after Liverpool made a public apology to Southampton after the south coast club accused their Premier League rivals of illegally approaching their captain.
But reports of a move being back on have gathered pace in recent weeks.
And footage of van Dijk leaving Southampton’s training ground in a black car has sent Liverpool fans into overdrive.
Takumo Asano converted from Yuto Nagatomo’s left-wing cross on 41 minutes to open the scoring.
And with seven minutes to go, Yosuke Ideguchi made sure of all three points in Group B.
Yoshida played the duration as they stood firm to see the game out and make it their sixth consecutive World Cup qualification, with one game to spare.
They face Saudi Arabia next on Tuesday 5th September, with kick-off scheduled for 6.30pm BST.
