Cédric and Vokins set for international action

Show/hide article…

The Saints full-back played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 victory over Egypt on Friday, when Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice in stoppage time in reply to Mo Salah’s strike.

Their opponents will be hoping to respond to their 1-0 defeat to England in Amsterdam, when Jesse Lingard’s solitary strike meant Ronald Koeman’s reign started with defeat.

Elsewhere, Jake Vokins could be involved as England Under-18s take on their Belarus counterparts.

Vokins replaced Callum Hudson-Odoi late on as the Young Lions secured a 2-1 victory over a mixed-age Argentina side at Manchester City’s Academy Stadium.

Neil Dewsnip’s side will hope to make it three wins out of three in their 7pm BST kick-off.

Transfer report: Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini ‘desperate to return to Italy’ this summer

Show/hide article…

Manolo Gabbiadini wants to return to Italy this summer with both Lazio and Bologna chasing the Southampton striker.

The 26-year-old has endured a difficult season on the south coast, bagging just four goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.

His poor form has led to suggestions that the Saints are willing to offload the striker at the end of the season and he is not short of options.

Gabbiadini’s preference is to return to Italy, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, where there is interest from Lazio and Bologna.

And while his future at the Saints remains unclear, interest in the striker is expected to grow heading into the summer window.

Lymo steered off course ahead of Saints test

Show/hide article…

LYMINGTON Town did not get the boost they had hoped for ahead of Thursday’s Southampton Senior Cup semi-final against Saints Under-23s at Blackfield & Langley FC (March 29, 7.30pm).

The Foresters are licking their wounds after a 2-1 home defeat by Shaftesbury in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Nathan Connolly struck twice – first with a penalty and then a one-on-one – to put the visitors in the driving seat.

Steve Walker pulled one back for Lymington as they battered Shaftesbury after the break, but Lymo were frustrated by a masterclass of goalkeeping from the Rockies’ Dan Card.

FORMER Winchester City boss Ian Saunders has reached a year in charge of AFC Portchester.

He was unable to celebrate in style, however, after the Royals were held to a goalless Sydenhams Premier draw at Bournemouth Poppies – and had Jack Morgan sent off into the bargain for a two-footed tackle.

Dan Wooden went closest to breaking the deadlock for Portchester with a thunderous second-half shot that crashed against the crossbar.

Generally, though, the sixth-placed Royals looked a bit leggy playing so soon after beating Gosport Borough 4-2 in the Portsmouth Senior Cup less than 48 hours earlier.

“We didn’t have that extra bit of energy to lift things,” said co-boss Mick Catlin. Bournemouth Poppies also hit the woodwork though Abdu Aldayhan in the 22nd minute.

From 2-0 down, Cowes surged back to lead 3-2 through John McKie (2) and Jimmy Wykes, but Amesbury had the last word.

On target for the hosts were Luke Greenway, Connor Miller and Jake Watson.

Semi-final coach travel details

Show/hide article…

Saints visit Wembley Stadium to take on the Blues on Sunday 22nd April, with tickets going on sale from tomorrow.

Official Coach Travel with Princess Coaches will be available, priced at £23 per person, from Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester.

The date coincides with the Southampton Marathon, Half Marathon & 10k, meaning a series of road closures in the city throughout the day.

The club has been communicating with Southampton City Council, Southampton Marathon organisers and Hampshire Police in order to deal with this, and would like to advise supporters of the following information…

(Details relating to Eastleigh and Winchester can also be found below)

SOUTHAMPTON

Coaches will leave St Mary’s Stadium at 8am promptly.

Please be aware, you MUST have boarded your coach by 7.50am. Coaches will not be permitted to wait for latecomers, due to other events in the city, and must leave on time.

If you have not boarded your coach on time then you will not be able to travel. No exceptions to this will be permitted.

Please also note that there will be no parking possible at St Mary’s or in the surrounding areas on the day, so please ensure you make alternative arrangements for reaching the stadium. Details of a nearby drop-off point will be communicated as soon as they are available.

The only exception to this will be a small amount of accessible parking in the North Car Park. This must be pre-booked and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. A pass will be provided in advance, permitting your vehicle to navigate through the road closures to St Mary’s. Details on how to book this will be made available here as soon as possible.

EASTLEIGH

Coaches will depart from Chestnut Avenue, outside Barton Peveril, at 8.45am.

Please note the change from the usual Eastleigh pick-up point. This is due to the volume of coaches that will be travelling.

WINCHESTER

Coaches will depart St Catherine’s Park & Ride at 9am.

Please note the change from the usual Winchester pick-up point. This is due to the volume of coaches that will be travelling. Cars can be left at the departure point in Winchester.

Supporters will be able to purchase Official Coach Travel at tickets.saintsfc.co.uk when purchasing their semi-final match tickets.

If you require wheelchair accessible coach travel, please contact the Supporter Relations department by e-mailing supporterrelations@saintsfc.co.uk.

Cédric watches on as Portugal suffer Dutch defeat

Show/hide article…

After playing a pivotal role in their 2-1 victory over Egypt on Friday, the Saints full-back was rested for Joao Cancelo.

It took the Dutch just 11 minutes to open the scoring, when Brighton’s Davy Propper played an incisive through ball into Memphis Depay, who finished emphatically despite pressure from Jose Fonte inside the box.

On 38, they doubled the advantage when Matthijs de Ligt was set free down the right, before delivering a powerful cross that was headed home by Ryan Babel.

de Ligt got another assist in first-half injury time when he headed a free-kick back into a dangerous area for Virgil van Dijk to volley into the bottom corner.

The night got worse for Fernando Santos’s side when Cancelo was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
