Alex Babos’ strike proved the difference for the visitors in the second-half at St Mary’s.
Hunter reflected: “We’re not very happy at all. The goal that we gave away was extremely and there was some poor individual defending.
“For about the third match running we dominated possession but we were poor in both boxes.
“Their bravery outshone us I’m afraid tonight, they were the first to put their bodies on the line so it’s very, very disappointing.”
Nathan Tella was introduced late on in the game for his debut in search of an equaliser, and Hunter highlighted his cameo as a bright spot in an otherwise frustrating night.
He added; “I’m delighted with him. He was very bright, he’s direct and he’s quick. He played with a real passion and energy so in terms of his debut we were very pleased with him.”
The Sun claim Claude Puel realises he won’t be able to keep the Dutchman at the club. Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton are all on keen on the £50m-rated star.
And it’s suggested Puel views Jullien as the ideal man to fill Van Dijk’s boots. The 24-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 this term after joining the club from Freiburg in the summer for £2m. Jullien began his career at Auxerre before sealing a move to Germany.
But he struggled to settle and was loaned out to French minnows Dijon. The powerful centre-back is now valued at around £10m following his impressive recent displays.
Southampton striker Sam Gallagher is being considered by Aston Villa, Sunderland, Wolves and Cardiff City.
The 21-year-old has impressed on loan at Blackburn Rovers despite the Ewood Park club battling relegation to League One.
The England U20 international was signed by Owen Coyle and has proved one of the few highlights of another poor season.
Gallagher, who is 6ft 4ins tall, has scored 12 goals this season including a vital one against rivals Bristol City last Monday where he was watched by Sunderland manager David Moyes.
Sunderland boss Moyes also used the opportunity to check on Bristol City forward Tammy Abraham.
The highly-rated 19-year-old is on loan from Chelsea but is also a potential target for Leicester City and Everton this summer.
