The Potters face Southampton in their final game of the Premier League campaign after a disappointing season for Mark Hughes’ men.
Stoke start the day in 14th place after failing to kick on form last season, a charge that can also be levelled at Saints, who appear to have also taken a step backwards.
This has led to speculation over Claude Puel’s future at St Mary’s, so the Frenchman will be hoping for a strong end to the campaign.
Shane Long will miss out for the hosts after breaking a metatarsal, with Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand also doubts.

Saints’ top scorer only returned to action this month after being sidelined since December with a shoulder injury.
He made a late cameo in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Middlesbrough, before being an unused substitute in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United in midweek.
Puel has revealed that the forward, who scored nine times in the opening half of the season, should be involved at some point on Sunday.
"We will see,” he said. "I won’t give the starting players, but Charlie can play in the game on Sunday.”
Puel agreed it was unfortunate that, like another influential player in Virgil van Dijk, Saints have had to do without Austin for so long.
"We know we have had a lot of problem with injuries,” he said. “It was difficult, but it was interesting also, because we can see other players in these places.
“For example, the injury of van Dijk meant we saw Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida together.
“They have improved fantastically, and it’s a good thing for the future.
“I tihnk many players have worked very well this season, with new international players like Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse. All this shows the good work for these players all season, and this is interesting for the future."

Southampton face Stoke City with both sides’ managers under a degree of pressure heading into the season finale.
Sitting in eighth place in the Premier League and having reached the final of the League Cup, outsiders could be forgiven for wondering why Saints boss Claude Puel’s position is currently in doubt.
However, a chronic lack of goals and concerns over the team’s style of play have frustrated fans – with sections of support making their discontent known after the south coast side’s goalless draw with Manchester United on Wednesday. Victory over the Potters on Sunday would secure eighth, but speculation over Puel’s future will rumble on into next week.
Last weekend’s defeat to Arsenal means Stoke can no longer register a fourth successive top-half finish. Mark Hughes led the Potters to a trio of ninth-place finishes prior to this campaign, but failure to build on solid foundations has led to a season of stagnation and doubts as to whether the Welshman can take the club any further.
With Stoke boasting just one win in 10 and the Saints one in seven, both sides – and managers - could really do with a positive result to end the year.
Southampton vs Stoke City kicks off at 15.00 BST
The match will not be shown live on UK television, but highlights will be shown at 22.30 BST on BBC One.
Jack Butland: The 24-year-old missed the vast majority of the season through injury but has returned to the Stoke goal for their last four matches. Linked with a summer move to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, the English shot-stopper has the chance to prove his form and fitness once more.
