Arsenal v Spurs betting tips and odds, Man United v Newcastle

Show/hide article…

From Stockholm to Sydney and Lagos to Lima there were wild celebrations as the final spots in next summer’s World Cup were nailed down but back in north London, one man would have been enjoying the international break more than most.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino not only saw several of his stars - Harry Kane and Co - recharge their batteries by missing two England games and return to training ahead of facing Arsenal, but he had great Dane Christian Eriksen warming up for the north London derby by smashing a hat-trick past Ireland en route to Russia.

So, Pochettino should be in fine fettle and his Spurs side will have plenty of backers at a shade better than 2/1, with the Gunners 7/5 and the draw available at 27/10.

We’ve heard a lot about this power shift in the north of the capital – Sportsmail columnist and former Gunner Martin Keown reluctantly acknowledged it but insisted Spurs need a trophy to back it up, while Piers Morgan and Lord Sugar were banging on about it as they looked ahead to Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

It’s true that last season was the first for 22 years that Spurs finished higher than their rivals, and they’re looking down on them now, four points and three places better off after 11 games. It’s also true that Arsenal haven’t won any of the last six Premier League meetings between the pair – drawing four times and losing twice.

What Arsenal have done though is bag maximum points from all five of their home matches this term to extend their winning run at the Emirates, stretching back to last season, to 10 games. That’s their longest at the stadium.

As good as Arsenal are on home soil, Spurs are just about as handy on the road. Defeat by Manchester United is their only slip in five and they bounced back from that Old Trafford loss to beat Real Madrid and Crystal Palace (both at home).

Arsenal’s most recent European outing wasn’t quite as impressive– a goalless draw with Red Star Belgrade and they also lost 3-1 to Manchester City, the very score tipped in these pages at 10/1 a fortnight ago.

Kane, on target in his last five Premier League north London derbies and likely to be passed fit, heads the scorer betting at 7/2 for the opener, 21/20 at anytime and 9/4 in the score-win double. Denmark’s hat-trick hero Eriksen is 10/1, 19/5 and 11/2 in the same markets. For the full list click HERE.

Pochettino has been saying nice things about his opposite number this week, calling Arsene Wenger ‘one of the great managers’ who deserves more respect.

Don’t expect the players to be as lovey-dovey when they cross the line. You can get 3/1 there’s a red card, 11/2 that Tottenham have a player sent off, 6/1 there’s an Arsenal dismissal and 25/1 both teams see red.

Saturday’s other live telly game sees a team with an even better home record than Arsenal’s in action as Manchester United host Newcastle.

United have also won five from five but they’ve scored more (15 to Arsenal’s 13) and haven’t conceded.

They’re 3/10 to make it six victories on the spin, with Newcastle 12/1 and the draw 5/1, while a home win without conceding a goal is no better than 9/10.

United, who have Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic closing in on a return, are 15/8 to win both halves.

The rest of the big six are in action at 3pm – league leaders Manchester City are at Leicester and with the last three meetings between the pair yielding 13 goals, an away win with over 3.5 total goals in the game can be backed at 7/4. Pep Guardiola’s men are no better than 4/11 just to win but 13/8 to win with both teams scoring.

Champions Chelsea will fancy their chances when they go to a West Brom side who have managed to claim just two points from the last 18 available. They’ve lost three on the spin by the odd goal and while this one is also likely to end in disappointment, a rout is unlikely. Chelsea by two goals is 15/4 and a 2-0 win is 13/2.

Liverpool should be too strong for Southampton at Anfield while Burnley should have enough about them to edge past Swansea.

Two teams desperate for points meet at Selhurst Park when Crystal Palace host Everton and a draw looks the best bet here – a share of the points with both teams scoring is 7/2.

Huddersfield haven’t scored away from Yorkshire in four games since the opening day of the season but if you reckon this is the week they can rediscover their touch on the road, Tom Ince may not be a bad bet. No player in the top flight has had more shots without scoring and he’s 4/1 at any time.

David Moyes takes charge of West Ham for the first time when they go to Watford in Sunday’s only game and he’s promised the players they’re starting with a clean slate.

The Hornets could do with one of them having lost their last three games and they’re 23/20 to get back to winning ways. The Hammers are available at 11/4 while the draw, the most appealing option, is 5/2. Brighton host Stoke on Monday night.

Liverpool vs Southampton kick-off time, TV channel, team news and more

Show/hide article…

Liverpool welcome Southampton to Anfield knowing they need a win to keep pace with the top four.

The Reds go into this weekend’s matches three points adrift of Chelsea - and 12 behind leaders Manchester City.

Lining up for Southampton will be Virgil van Dijk, who looked set to join Liverpool in the summer.

That deal didn’t go through but the Reds are expected to revisit the situation in January.

But who will emerge victorious at Anfield on Saturday?

The clash is on Saturday November 18 with a 3pm kick-off.

The match at Anfield will not be shown live on TV in the UK.

You will have to wait until Match of the Day to catch the highlights.

There is no live stream for the encounter.

But you can follow all the action from Anfield with Mirror Football.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has virtually a fully-fit squad to select from for the visit of Southampton.

Adam Lallana is fit again after a three-month lay off with a thigh injury while fellow midfielder Jordan Henderson has recovered from a similar problem which forced him to miss their last Premier League match and England’s two friendlies.

But even though Lallana is likely to be in the squad, his manager insisted there is NO chance of him starting the game.

Mario Lemina is set to be Southampton’s only absentee for their Premier League trip to Liverpool.

The former Juventus midfielder remains sidelined with an ankle injury which has kept him out of the last two matches.

Northern Ireland’s Steven Davis, Republic of Ireland’s Shane Long and Italy’s Manolo Gabbiadini are all available despite failing to qualify for next summer’s World Cup.
