Southampton transfer news: Manolo Gabbiadini wanted by Lazio in summer swap

Show/hide article…

The 26-year-old’s future on the south coast looks unclear after a miserable season so far.

Gabbiadini has managed just four goals in 25 Premier League appearances this term which is a far cry from his first few months with the club.

Southampton paid Napoli £14.6 million to sign him in January 2017 and he scored six goals in his first four outings.

However, he has managed just four goals in 37 appearances ever since and he could now be set to leave.

And, according to Tuttosport, Lazio are hoping to lure the Italy international back to Serie A when the window opens.

It has been suggested that they want to sign him on loan initially with an option to buy only triggered once he makes a certain number of appearances.

Gabbiadini missed a penalty during the Saints’ 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday, and has scored once in his last ten outings in all competitions.

All four will miss Saturday’s international friendly at Windsor Park. Southampton and Northern Ireland skipper Davis has a hamstring injury and has remained on the south coast for treatment.

Hearts forward Lafferty pulled out of the squad due to a thigh strain, with Leeds United’s Dallas also suffering the same injury.

Aberdeen’s McGinn left due to a groin strain. Lafferty, Dallas and McGinn have returned to their respective clubs for treatment.

readers’ close in on perfect top-six Premier League table prediction

Show/hide article…

Having come closer than close last season, Sky Sports readers are dead on course to predict the Premier League’s top six - having called runaway leaders Manchester City to capture a first title in four years.

Back in September, we asked you to vote for the final positions in this season’s Premier League, and if you’d stuck a bet on the top six, you’d have the bookies red-faced right now.

This time last year, we revealed you had called all of the top seven right in the 2016/17 season - which would have netted £12,166 from a £1 bet at the time, although you would have been wise to cash out as Arsenal and Manchester United swapped places in the final standings.

And while this time a bet on the top six for 2017/18 would have earned you odds of a relatively tame 150-1, it’d still be a nice little earner.

This year, Sky Sports readers said Manchester United would finish second - a position they consolidated thanks to a 2-1 win over Liverpool last time out - with the Reds third, and Tottenham fourth.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have played a game more than Spurs but with the season entering its home straight, things could well end with the league positions exactly how they are now.

There’s still time for things to change in the race for Europe too, although with a five-point gap to the top four, calling Chelsea and Arsenal to miss out on a Champions League looks to be an inspired call.

At the other end of the table things are not quite so prophetic, where Swansea, Brighton and Crystal Palace were tipped for the drop.

The Eagles did lose their first seven games of the season without scoring, but jumped out of the bottom three on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 win at Huddersfield. And Swansea, who were bottom of the league in December, have been revitalised under Carlos Carvalhal.

Brighton have been one of the surprise packages of the season and are six points above the drop zone, and have a famous 2-1 win over Arsenal to remember from earlier this month.
