Steven Davis is set to miss the Emirates FA Cup replay with Norwich City, while Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Bertrand are both doubts for the match.
Southampton welcome the Canaries on Wednesday night (7.45pm GMT), following a 2-2 draw at Carrow Road first time up, as the two sides fight it out for the right to host Arsenal in the fourth round of the competition.
Saints will again be without midfielder Davis, who missed Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley because of injury, while van Dijk and Bertrand both have slight issues that need to be assessed.
"For this game, Davis will not be available,” Saints boss Claude Puel said. “Sofiane Boufal also.
“We will see on some players who have some pain, like Virgil and Bertrand. We will see this, and we have long injuries of course, like Austin and McCarthy, Hesketh and Targett.”
We are into the second half of the January transfer window but there is still plenty of business left to be done by Premier League clubs.
Chelsea are battling to keep hold of start striker Diego Costa following offers from the Chinese Super League while Man City’s 4-0 hammering by Everton shows Pep Guardiola has more than a few defensive deficiencies.
With that mind, we have asked a fan from each Premier League club to identify the one position in their team that must be strengthened before the window closes.
This is what they said…
If you combine Hector Bellerin’s recent injury problems with Gabriel’s obvious awkwardness at right-back, Carl Jenkinson’s seemingly inevitable departure from north London and Mathieu Debuchy’s status as the forgotten man, it becomes clear that Arsenal should focus their attention on signing an experienced full-back in the next two weeks.
Bayern Munich’s Rafinha has only been involved in nine Bundesliga matches this season and someone of his ilk would provide great cover for Bellerin as he recovers from his injury troubles.
After Nathan Ake’s return to Stamford Bridge, Bournemouth will be looking to fill the void in defence. With the success of Jack Wilshere and Ake this year, perhaps the cherries should once again turn to the loan system to find reinforcements. Rob Holding is one potential option, who after a successful spell at Bolton has failed to a win a place in Arsenal’s crowded backline.
Like the departed Ake, Holding is 21 years old and would benefit from playing with the experienced group of Simon Francis, Charlie Daniels and Steve Cook. Whether Holding or another player, bringing in a defender to replace Ake will be crucial to Bournemouth’s quest to finish in the top half of the table.
Burnley have surpassed fan expectation in their first season back in the Premier League since relegation in 2015. The mighty Clarets currently occupy tenth place in the league table – which is pretty remarkable considering we have picked up just one point on the road this campaign.
The departure of unused loanee Patrick Bamford has seen some fans call for a replacement to be signed, but we have more pressing issues than a fourth choice striker this month.
If I were at the helm, my money would be spent on signing Robbie Brady from Norwich City – a player who not only creates chances but brings goals from midfield to the team.
Chelsea need to add some firepower up front, especially after the rumours surrounding Diego Costa and his immediate future at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte doesn’t completely trust Michy Batshuayi and it’s clear to see he wasn’t the first-choice striker during the summer.
The club are being linked with a move for Fernando Llorente and this would be a good alternative to the current duo but wouldn’t be a suitable option instead of either of them.
It would be tough to add a ‘world class’ forward during January so I’d expect to see more wholesale changes in the summer.
I think Palace need to strengthen in a few areas but we definitely need a central midfielder or a defensive midfielder; someone who can bully opposition teams and break up play. I don’t understand why we didn’t attempt to get Schneiderlin as I think he would have been a fantastic signing for us.
I saw Chelsea linked with Steven N’Zonzi in the summer and he’s another player who I think would be a great signing for us as he’s got experience of the Premier League and isn’t afraid to get stuck in. We need someone of that ilk, in my opinion.
For me, it is imperative that Everton look to improve the goalkeeper spot as the club’s ambitions begin to grow.
All top six clubs have top class goalkeepers, world class even, while Everton’s pairing of Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg is lacklustre at best.
One option, of course, has to be Joe Hart, who is set to return to Manchester from Torino at some point. Plans are for that to happen in the summer but if a permanent deal was on the table during January, it may change things. With the club’s new found ambition under Farad Moshiri’s guidance, their pocket is certainly deep enough to tempt him.
Hull City have been riddled with long-term injuries this season, with Alex Bruce, Moses Odubajo and Allan McGregor all out for lengthy periods of time.
However, what we need the most is a right-back. Moses Odubajo, who suffered ligament damage in pre-season, is set to be out for the rest of the year. This is bad for the Tigers as we have no natural replacement. The only player that can fit into the right-back position is Ahmed Elmohamdy, who is currently representing Egypt in the African Cup of Nations.
Teams this year have exploited the right side of the defence, in part leading to us conceding 24 goals in the league.
For many Leicester fans, it’s pretty clear where we need to strengthen in January. We have already strengthened our midfield options with the signing of Wilfred Ndidi from Genk this month and the signings of Ahmed Musa and Islam Slimani in the summer mean we do not need to sign another striker.
With Wes Morgan and Robert Huth in their 30s, a younger, ball-playing centre-back should be at the top of Claudio Ranieri’s wishlist. We have already seen this season that our defence has often been found out on a consistent basis and having a more athletic, younger defender in the heart of our defence will be crucial in retaining our top-flight status and progressing in the UEFA Champions League. Schalke’s Matija Nastasić or Burnley’s Michael Keane are two potential options for the Foxes.
I’d like Liverpool to sign a forward player who has pace. At the moment, we only have one real winger in the squad and that’s Sadio Mane, who is away on AFCON duty. Without Mane in the side, Liverpool lack that extra bit of pace that makes them so dangerous on the break.
In order to compete for the title this year, I think a quick winger with an ability to score goals would be a huge addition if the club could get a deal done to get one in.
Despite spending over £150m in the summer transfer window, supporters of Manchester City have been left feeling rather underwhelmed by the wealth of talent within their ranks.
Claudio Bravo’s displays have left question marks over the goalkeeping position, Vincent Kompany’s continued absence has left a sizeable gap in the centre of the defence and suspensions for the ill-tempered Fernandinho has exposed a lack of depth in the City midfield.
Depth is a real issue across the park, but given their frailties at the back, recruiting a resolute, physical, combative centre-back who can be a vocal leader would be a welcome sight at the Etihad.
With Eric Bailly currently on international duty with the Ivory Coast and Chris Smalling looking a shadow of the player he was last season, Jose Mourinho should be looking to bring in a centre-back.
Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been deputising in recent weeks but the Argentine has been rather fortunate to not have been shown a red card within that period.
Jose Fonte and Aymeric Laporte are among the names to have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and with the former handing in a transfer request at Southampton, he would be the perfect fit to play for his fellow countryman.
Only three sides have conceded fewer goals than Middlesbrough this season, but nobody has scored less - and here lies the problem. Boro have been superb at the back this campaign - disciplined, well organised and resilient - but they are not capitalising on their resolute defending.
Aitor Karanka is looking to address this issue, targeting a number of attacking reinforcements who could improve his side. Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend, Hull City’s Robert Snodgrass and Stoke’s Bojan Krkic, who recently expressed his desire to leave the Potters this month, have all been linked with moves to Teeside. Boro are also pressing for a breakthrough in negotiations with Chelsea regarding Patrick Bamford.
Saints are in desperate need of a striker, having scored a pathetic total of 19 goals in 21 games, only made worse by the injury to Charlie Austin. However, we’re not exactly looking too stable at the back and that comes with the debacle surrounding Jose Fonte rumbling on.
Claude Puel has to make two signings this window. He has to bring in a striker that can finally make the most of the plethora of chances that we create. But really, replacing Fonte with a central defender that has age on his side and as much quality as our captain can be considered equally as important.
I feel like Stoke are one of the stalwarts of the Premier League, not quite reaching Europe but never in real danger of a relegation scrap; an ever-present. Currently in ninth place, the position I feel Stoke need to strengthen in to push for a European spot is definitely the striker department.
With Peter Crouch, 35 years old, their only fit first team striker at the moment, I believe they should cash in on the troubled Bojan for the touted fee of £12 million and use these funds to finance a move for a proven Premier League goalscorer. Saido Berahino has been mooted as an option.
It’s probably easier to ask Sunderland fans which area doesn’t need strengthening - quality is thin on the ground for us at the minute.
Our catastrophic list of injuries has left our midfield looking about as creative as a breeze block, with very little grit to protect the shaky defence. Jack Rodwell and Sebastian Larsson do not have the required industry and work-rate to hustle and pressure their opponents into a mistake and therefore a central midfielder would improve such things. Of course, without buying any player, the biggest move Sunderland can do this month is to make sure Jermain Defoe is still at the club come the end of the transfer window.
It’s not a question of where Swansea should strengthen in the transfer window, it’s a question of where Swansea need to strengthen. If the Swans have any hope of surviving relegation this season, they must bring in a quality centre-back. We didn’t adequately replace Ashley Williams in the summer and it’s proven to be a major downfall, with the Swans conceding 49 goals in 21 games - an atrocious record. We can score goals, that’s not too much of an issue, but it’s evident that Swansea’s problems lay in the defence. We’ve got to sort it out, otherwise we’ll be going down without a doubt.
This transfer window is an unusual one for Spurs fans in as much that there are no areas that seem to need immediate improvement. The side has been built well and there are quality players in every position, so much so that if everyone can stay fit then there is a feeling that we should be in with a shout for the title this season.
If someone is going to be brought in then they should offer something we don’t already have or be a player for the future. A bright, young attacker to develop under Mauricio Pochettino would be ideal.
Names that have been generally approved of are the Portuguese winger Bruma, Fulham leftie Ryan Sessegnon and Croatian midfielder Ante Coric.
In truth, Watford could do with a few new additions in this transfer window. However, the most critical position to strengthen in January, for me, is in defensive midfield. Whilst enduring a poor run of form, the Hornets have conceded plenty of late. Behrami has had troubles with injury and is one of the few players Mazzarri trusts to operate in that role.
Watford’s defence haven’t been brilliant but the lack of effort to put in a tackle in the midfield has been worrying. A midfielder who will close players down and win the ball back quickly for the team would be a godsend for Watford fans.
West Bromwich Albion have one of the thinnest squads in the Premier League, so reinforcements are needed all around, although the chances of that happening in January are slim. If you had to pinpoint one area for the Baggies to buy, it would have to be a versatile defender who is capable of playing anywhere in the back four, especially left-back as the squad lacks a player who is a natural in the position. With ageing defenders and a lack of natural full-backs, there’s next-to-no cover in the defensive areas for Tony Pulis’ side. The manager should also be worried by the club’s lack of firepower this season.
If you asked me a week ago, I would’ve said bringing in a striker would be the main priority for West Ham this month.
Since then, we’ve had Dimitri Payet throw his toys out of the pram and seeking a route out of east London. He’s got to go for the greater good as much as it pains me to say it. You can’t allow a player of his quality to go unreplaced.
Identifying and successfully signing a midfield playmaker to replace Payet is key, but bringing in another striker is definitely a close second. Brentford’s Scott Hogan and Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson have both been touted as targets of ours and fit the bill nicely.

Sunday was the first time since Boxing Day 1980 that Manchester United faced Liverpool and Everton faced Manchester City on the same day.
It was also the first time since 1987/88 that both league meetings in a season have been drawn between Manchester United and Liverpool.
It was the 50th Premier League meeting of the two and the 10th draw. Manchester United have 27 wins and Liverpool 13. In the 25 league games at Old Trafford, United have won 15, Liverpool have won five and there have been five draws.
Liverpool have finished above United only twice in 24 Premier League seasons, but in the 24 seasons before that United finished above Liverpool just once - and that was the 1991/92 season just before the Premier League started.
James Milner has scored six out of six Premier League penalties this season and scored against United for a fourth different club (Newcastle, Aston Villa, Man City and Liverpool). That was his 49th PL goal.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his first goal in six appearances against Liverpool, two for Juventus, two for Inter and now two for Manchester United. He still hasn’t been on the winning side.
In seven meetings of Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp, Jose has won one, drawn three and lost three. His only win was for Real Madrid against Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the 2013 Champions League semi-final - and while he won the game, he got knocked out of the competition.
Hi Martin! Jurgen Klopp accused Manchester United of being a long-ball team. What do the stats say? (Sam, Stockport)
MARTIN SAYS: Our friends at Opta, who define a long ball as “a forward pass of 35 yards or more that is kicked into space rather than a precise pass aimed at a particular team-mate”, inform me that United played 53 long balls in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with bitters rivals Liverpool - their most in a top-flight game this season.
In the Premier League as a whole, United’s 510 long balls this term sees them into 12th spot in the overall standings, the most of any the current top six.
Interestingly, the current top five - Chelsea (361), Spurs (374), Arsenal (369), Liverpool (478) and Man City (424) - occupy the bottom five positions in the long-ball table, with Swansea (494) surprisingly the next side on the list, a testament to the south Wales club’s free-flowing philosophy.
At the other end, Crystal Palace top the table having played 796 long balls to date. Burnley (784), West Brom (772), Watford (771) and champions Leicester (700) complete the bottom five.
Peter Crouch has played for six PL clubs. Has any other player reached 100 PL goals having scored for that many teams? Fred, Luton
MARTIN SAYS: If Peter Crouch scores one more Premier League goal then he will reach 100 goals having scored for Aston Villa, Southampton, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Tottenham and Stoke.
Five members of the 100 Club have scored for six clubs, but they all reached 100 goals before they reached the sixth club!
Andy Cole reached 100 Premier League goals playing for Newcastle and Manchester United, before also scoring for Blackburn, Fulham, Man City and Portsmouth.
Les Ferdinand reached 100 Premier League goals while at QPR and Newcastle, before adding further goals at Spurs, West Ham, Leicester and Bolton.
Robbie Keane reached the landmark during his second spell at Tottenham, having scored Premier League goals for Coventry, Leeds and Liverpool. He later scored for West Ham and Aston Villa.
Nicolas Anelka reached 100 Premier League goals at his fifth club Chelsea, having played for Bolton, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal. He also scored for West Brom.
Darren Bent also scored his 100th Premier League goal at his fifth club Aston Villa. He’d previously scored for Ipswich, Charlton, Tottenham and Sunderland and later scored for Fulham.
So Peter Crouch could become the first man to reach the 100-goal barrier while scoring for his sixth Premier League club.
I’ve been talking to Peter on and off for the last 18 months because I do the voiceover for Sky Sports’ 100 Club show and I’ve been telling him he needs to get there! I’m poised to rush to the recording studio when number 100 goes in - and all at Sky will be delighted for him!
Burnley have won 25 of their 26 points at home this season. Is that the largest percentage of home points in history? Barry, Lancashire
MARTIN SAYS: According to our friends at Opta, if Burnley carry on at this rate of home success, having picked up a staggering 96 per cent of their total points at Turf Moor this season, they will break their own Premier League record for an entire season.
The Clarets picked up 26 of their total 30 points at home (87 per cent) in the 2009/10 season before relegation, slightly above Leeds’ 44 of 51 points (86 per cent) from the 1992/93 season.
Fulham also enjoyed home comforts in 2005/06, collecting 85 per cent of points (41 of 47) at Craven Cottage, while Coventry (84 per cent in 1999/00 and Hull City (80 per cent in 2009/10) also feature highly on the list.
In other news for Burnley fans, I will be in the company of Jamie Carragher for Burnley v Chelsea on February 12 - our first Super Sunday commentary together.
Which player has scored the most Premier League goals without scoring from outside the penalty area? Chetan, Crouch End
MARTIN SAYS: With the help of our friends at Opta, I can tell you former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has scored 56 goals in the Premier League and, incredibly, all 56 came inside the penalty area (31 were headers).
Chelsea defender John Terry is next on the list with 40 goals inside the area just ahead of former Everton defender David Unsworth.
Strikers Kevin Doyle and Javier Hernandez both scored 37 goals in the Premier League and they have a 100 percent record of scoring inside the penalty area.
We also asked Opta if anybody had scored at least 10 Premier League goals and had never scored inside the area. Nobody falls into that category, but a few come close.
Incredibly, Hull City’s Tom Huddlestone, has scored 11 goals in the Premier League and 10 have come from outside the penalty area.
Tugay scored 10 Premier League goals during his time with Blackburn with nine coming outside the box.
Thomas Hitzlsperger is next on the list with eight of his 10 goals coming from outside the penalty area, while Xabi Alonso scored 14 league goals with 11 of them coming from distance.
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is keen to strengthen his defence and wants 33-year-old centre half Fonte in this window.
Fonte has already handed in a transfer request and Saints boss Claude Puel has dropped the Portuguese defender while the saga plays out.
Southampton are believed to want as much as £12m for Fonte who has also interested Everton in the window with a potential link up with former boss Ronald Koeman.
Manchester United were also interested in the Portugal Euro 2016 winner who has gained a reputation as one of Europe’s top centre halves.
But West Ham are understood to have made a move to see whether they can prise Fonte away from St Mary’s.
Bilic has been given money to spend and a new centre half is a priority as well as a striker in January.
Marseille have made a £20m bid for Dimitri Payet and they are locked in a battle with the unhappy France star.
But West Ham do have money to spend and have made a £12m offer for Brentford’s Scott Hogan while Fonte is also in their sights.
A NEW piece of research has revealed whether each Premier League team is doing better or worse than expected this season. *Research by Squawka.
The season is now more than halfway to completion, and the race for the Premier League title is really hotting up.

The 27-year-old Frenchman has been in good form for the Swiss outfit this season and his performances have attracted the attention of numerous clubs across Europe.
According to L’Equipe, Swansea and Southampton are among those keeping a close watch on the player.
Ligue 1 sides Toulouse and Nice are also interested in snapping up the French midfielder and Bundesliga side Hoffenheim are also monitoring his performances with Young Boys.
Ravet has been in fine form for his current club, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists this season.
He has a contract until 2019 with Young Boys, who signed the player from Grasshoppers in January last year.
