Sunderland vs Swansea live score updates, plus goals from the rest of the Premier League

Show/hide article…

There are three 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League on Saturday, and we’ll be bringing you all the goals as they go in.

Our main focus will be on the match at the Stadium of Light where Swansea desperately need a win to keep their survival hopes alive against already relegated Sunderland.

Ahead of the match Paul Clement has said he believes “history” is on Swansea’s side in their battle for Premier League survival.

While relegation rivals Hull had a major turn around of players under Marco Silva in January, Swansea can count on several individuals who have had a long association with the club.

It is a factor that Clement feels could prove decisive in the final two games, with the former Chelsea number two seeing similarities between that and some of the players he worked with at Stamford Bridge.

“I have experienced it with John Terry and Frank Lampard at Chelsea, but what I saw last Saturday was special,” Swansea head coach Clement said.

U18 Report: Saints 1-1 Sunderland

Show/hide article…

Owen Gamble’s first-half free-kick gave the visitors the advantage, but substitute Hale cut in from the right and found the net late on to secure a share of the spoils.

Saints almost took the lead after just five minutes at St Mary’s. Johnson latched onto a loose pass across the Black Cats backline and hammered a shot at goal, but it bounced clear off the left corner of the upright.

At the other end Gamble was causing mischief for the visitor. The diminutive front man snuck in behind to break free on goal before Oliver Gardner recovered well to stop him in his tracks.

It was Gamble that eventually broke the deadlock on 38 minutes. Having been awarded a free-kick he rifled the 25-yard set piece into Alex Cull’s top corner just before the break.

Despite falling behind the Saints youngsters almost responded immediately. A clever pass from Will Smallbone played in Jonathan Afolabi one-on-one, though he was unable to provide the finish and pull Saints level before the break.

That was to be Afolabi’s final contribution of the afternoon, as he made way during the interval for Michael Obafemi.

Again an early lapse in concentration across the backline almost cost the visitors a goal. This time Obafemi almost capitalised on goalkeeper Anthony Patterson’s loose pass, but the Sunderland stopper did well to recover and save down low to his left.

Obafemi’s pace was causing the Black Cats real problems. Once more on 50 minutes he burst in behind and checked back inside his man to fire a strike at goal, but Patterson was again equal to the Irishman’s effort.

Craig Fleming’s men continued to press and create chances up until the closing minutes of the game. Substitute Hale’s energy forced a number of opening, but it wasn’t until the 88th minute that Saints found their leveller.

Bursting in from the right flank, Hale checked past two men across the face of the area before firing a left-footed strike low into the reverse corner to secure a share of points at St Mary’s.
