Virgil van Dijk has gone on strike at Southampton as he tries to push through a move
The general consensus among Blues fans on popular forum www.theshedend.com is they don’t need to splash out a huge transfer fee on Van Dijk.
Many are already satisfied with the current defensive options and they see the Southampton captain as an unnecessary priority.
It was yesterday revealed the Blues were pondering a £50milion move to lure him away from St Mary’s.
One thinks they are just trying to keep him away from Liverpool and wrote: “How are we going to fit 5 central defenders into the back 3, as well as Christensen. Looks like it’s a signing just to keeping him away from the other teams.”
Another wrote: “It seems that if we are bidding for a CB it’s not because we wanted another CB but because we can’t get 2 fullbacks/wingbacks but Dave [Cesar Apzilicueta] can play fullback on either side.”
Liverpool fan Graeme Kelly, a social media in-the-know on transfer news with more than 65,000 Twitter followers, made the claim on podcast Code Red this week.
He says Van Dijk is still for sale and that a deal could stil be done.
Liverpool were in for Van Dijk earlier this summer before formally announcing that they were retracting their interest.
However, Jurgen Klopp still wants to strengthen his defence and sees Van Dijk, who is training on his own at Saints, as the man he needs.

The 2017/18 term will start - for the first time on a Friday - live on Sky Sports Premier League from the Emirates as Arsenal host Leicester on August 11 before a Saturday lunchtime clash between Watford and Liverpool.
Super Sunday also returns with double-header that pitches promoted Newcastle against Tottenham and Manchester United versus West Ham.
That’s according to The Times’ Matt Hughes, who claims Saints’ anger towards the Reds means they would prefer to complete a deal for the centre-back with Chelsea.
Van Dijk has emerged as one of European football’s most-coveted defenders since he rocked up at St. Mary’s two years ago.
And Jurgen Klopp is known to be desperate to get him on-board as he looks to shore up his backline ahead of next season.
Van Dijk would apparently rather join Liverpool than Chelsea or Manchester City, who’ve also been credited with interest in him.
