Chelsea v Manchester United and Man City v Arsenal odds and tips

Show/hide article…

Rockets will light up the sky on Sunday but the Bonfire Night fireworks could start early when Manchester and London go head to head in the Premier League.

Table-topping Manchester City have been in sparkling form and aren’t expected to slip up against Arsenal - Pep Guardiola’s side are no better than 1/2 for the points with an away win available at 13/2 and the draw on offer at 9/2.

And here’s why. While City have been storming their way to the summit, Arsenal have been doing what they always do, politely nudging their way into the top six without causing too much hassle for those around them.

They drew with Chelsea and were hammered by Liverpool – two teams City have taken care of – and haven’t won at any of the big six since beating City in January 2015. That’s nine defeats and seven draws since the start of the 2014-15 campaign and there’s little to suggest things are going to change any time soon. But while it might be predictable it can still be entertaining.

There’s a handful of Brazilians – Ederson, Danilo, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus – at the Etihad and City have gone a bit ‘we’ll-score-more-than-you’ from time to time, letting Stoke and West Brom both net twice, so a home win with both teams scoring, at 6/4, isn’t a silly bet.

The hosts are 5/6 to win with more than 2.5 total goals in the match while a City victory with more than 3.5 total goals in the game is 17/10.

Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea is a tougher one to call – and has the potential to be more explosive. Over the past half dozen games in all competitions (apart from Huddersfield away) United have been getting results without shining and criticism has strained the relationship between manager and fans.

His opposite number Antonio Conte has also been on a short fuse, refusing to speak about his relationship with Mourinho in his pre-match press conference and before that, hitting out at the ‘bulls_*_’ talk of his job being under threat. Nevertheless, Ladbrokes did cut him to 7/1 from 20s in the Premier League sack race.

His Blues side are 8/5 to beat United, who are 11/5 with the draw 23/10.

We got a 1-0 United win at 7/1 last weekend – and a 2-2 draw between Crystal Palace and West Ham at 16s for good measure – and backing Mourinho’s men to win by one goal again has some appeal. The single-goal margin is 4/1 while a 2-1 result in their favour is 11/1.

Chelsea don’t lose many to United, just once in their last 15 at home, but since Conte’s been under fire they’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last eight in all competitions and were hammered by Roma in midweek while the Red Devils were beating Benfica.

United may not have been ripping teams apart but they’ve won three in a row without conceding and kept out a Tottenham side who put four past Liverpool and hit three against Real Madrid.

There’s two more games on Sunday and for Spurs, it’s Palace next at Wembley. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are 3/10 but Dele Alli, still in dreamland after his double against Real, is 6/5 in the score-win double.

Later in the day, it’s Watford’s turn to beat Everton. They’re 14/5.

So, five of the top six are in action on Sunday but one man who will be glad his team are playing on Saturday is Rafa Benitez.

He’s taken charge of Newcastle five times at home on a Saturday and won on each occasion and lost just one of his last 58 on his own patch in the Premier League, winning 47. If a stat like that rocks your see-saw, get on the Toon at 21/20 to beat Bournemouth. If it doesn’t, you should still be backing them as they haven’t lost at home since the opening day against Tottenham, winning three times and drawing once.

Stoke and Leicester kick off the weekend in Saturday’s early game where Claude Puel is looking to carry on his winning start and the Foxes’ fine run – they’ve won three in a row and are unbeaten in five.

The Potters are hard to follow, losing at home to Bournemouth and then winning at Watford made them few friends among punters and a draw looks the best bet here.

Elsewhere at 3pm, Huddersfield take on West Brom, Southampton host Burnley and it’s Swansea against Brighton before the late game between West Ham and Liverpool.

No team has conceded more on the road than Liverpool’s 15 goals but even if West Ham add to that tally you’d expect Jurgen Klopp’s side to come through.

An away win with both teams scoring is 11/5 while it’s also worth backing over 4.5 total goals in the game at 15/4 as five of the Hammers’ 13 matches in all competitions this term have had four or more – just like eight of Liverpool’s 17 outings.

Daniel Sturridge loves a goal against West Ham, he has five in seven in the league, and he’s in our anytime scorer treble with Spurs star Alli and Manchester City’s Leroy Sane. All three returns around 11/1.
