Puel: We’ve come a long way since opening day

The home clash with Watford in August was Puel’s first league game in charge of Saints, as he began life in charge at St Mary’s.
His side fell behind against the Hornets, only for an improved second-half display being rewarded when Nathan Redmond equalised on his debut.
Saints were not rewarded for their dominance with all three points on that occasion, but Puel is hoping for a different tale this time around.
“Of course it’s another game with Watford and both teams have improved since this first game of the season,” Puel said.
“It was a good example, it was the first game of the season and we played until half time without the right ingredients.
“In the second half, we can see our play was much better, with quality, with many chances, but without the good reward for the first time.
“At half time it was not sufficient, but in the second half it was much better and it was a good thing for us.
“Now it’s another game, but it’s impossible to make comparisons.”
Puel believes Saints have come a long way since that opening-day clash with the Hornets.
“It is a young squad and young players and now we have all the quality to develop this team for the future,” he added
“It was the difficulty in the beginning of the season, without some international players when we train, but after with all the games we can improve.
“We saw, for example, the final against Manchester what is our play and what can be our potential. This is interesting for the future.”
