Anyone else given up on the Automatic Saints thread ?
Is there no quick way to get to the last post ?
I’m the only one that can tame it.
I’m Dr Frankenstein and it’s my monster.
I’m actually just compiling a lengthy to-do list of things to fix on the site for pap, and as he is a second-rate, sorry that’s the second-best web developer in the world, I’m sure he’ll implement them ASAP.
One of those to-do iterms is to get Optimus Trousers to create a new thread every week. This will hopefully make each thread a little more manageable and friendly as there will ever be a week’s worth of news in any one thread.
We’ll see how this goes and if that’s still too much we’ll either can it* or, as the Goat and I were discussing at the last matchday beers (I went to), we’ll just parrot news from the official site.
*Fatsod will be along in a moment to provide his insight on this. I predict that it will involve anger (obvs.) and the term Newsnow.
It looks like Yoshi just didn’t pick up his man, but I’m laying this on VvD.
I actually watched the other highlights on iPlayer first (FF to about 1:02:35). The iPlayer clip is slightly different from the link above.
In this clip, it looks as if VvD gestures to a midfielder (who I can’t make out but could be Hojbjerg) and then points to Naismith (the 5’10" goal scorer) telling the midfielder to pick Naismith up.
It’s not clear, and it could be that VvD is telling Yoshi to pick Naismith up.
Either way, Joshi points back to say I’m more concerned about Lafferty (the 6’4" striker) who Stephens is marking. Olsson is also joining the attack at the far post and this would then give Stephens two players to deal with.
At this time, I have to say that I think Joshi’s instinct to not get drawn to Naismith is correct and that VvD makes the error.
Look at the picture below.
It shows VvD in loads of space marking nobody, whilst Yoshi is caught between the greater threat of Lafferty and the advancing Olsson and thinks that between VvD and the unknown midfielder they should be able to pick up Naismith.
As play develops and the ball comes in and you can say that Yoshi should have reacted earlier, but the unknown midfielder is left marking nobody and doesn’t even know that Naismith is behind him. But VvD made the initial error in not listening to Yoshi’s better view of the threat. IMO.
It was poor either way as Naismith is left pretty much unmarked and we look more than a little amateur.
*Lol @ the RaleighBoy commenting on defending. As if he’s ever even stood in his own half of the pitch.
