I’m taking no lessons on moral judgement from someone who has a homophobic name that was given after a whip round, take your charity idea to children in need or unite? See if they like it?

I know everyone loves telling Barry he’s a cunt but a quick check would verify that whoever controls naz shah’ s official Twitter account did like a tweet saying the abused girls of Rotherham should keep their mouths shut because of diversity.
You can click on ‘likes’ to see who liked the tweet. Why they did remains unclear.

It totally, totally misses the point.
"The first amendment is the “letter of the law”. The spirit of the law, something liberals and progressives use to proudly proclaim was their realm, is the idea that in public forums or places where the general public congregate, that the freedom to distribute ideas should not be hindered but that arguments should be judged on their own merits, that bad or hateful ideas should be argued down with reason and evidence. It is only through our mutual struggle against bad or hateful ideas that we as a civilization learn what the good and virtuous ideas are; because we have amassed cultural knowledge, evidence, and reason to support them.
This is not just a U.S thing, this is a foundation of human rights.
Places like Reddit and elsewhere get so hard when it comes to net neutrality and making the internet a public utility and want all the rights and privileges of being a public forum, but when it comes to shouldering the burden of being a public forum they like to pull the “well we’re TECHNICALLY a private company” card so they can have their cake and eat it too.
At the end of the day; if you want to obstruct, boycott, no-platform, ban and censor, even from private spaces (where yes, of course you have the right to do those things), it doesn’t take a genius to see that you’re clearly not particularly confident in putting across your side of the argument, and wish to silence your opposition.
Now, hey? Your attitude might well be “yes, I jolly well do want to do all of those things”, which is open and honest in fairness - trouble is, people will ask questions and they will get answers of some kind - and in the days of the internet, those answers can range from the sinister to the repugnant - given a real degree of credibility to the mind of a typical 16-year old by the fact they’re silenced in public discourse.

Having reviewed the chain of tweets, it’s something of a stretch to arrive at the conclusion Barry has. It could be anything to misinterpretation, to a fat finger, to a shaming RT ( bringing attention to the original idiot ). They shouldn’t have to, but many Twitter accounts carry the disclaimer “retweets do not equal endorsement”.
For the record, Barry’s interpretation is that he thinks Naz Shah reckons rape victims should keep their traps shut if the diversity project is threatened in any way.
Do you think he considered _any _alternative before settling on that explanation?
My current policy when hearing dumbasses talk shit, is to shrug shoulders & not adopt their views as my own. I feel that ought to be easier & more practical than trying to prevent dumbasses talking shit in the first place.
