Exactly right. Mike Dean turned what would admittedly be a poor scoreline into a humiliating one with his ridiculous decisions. Pretty much universal condemnation of him across the media for his display last night. There is no question that he has a problem with Southampton FC. It’s way past time when referees should be obliged to give an interview after the game and justify decisions they make, after all managers and players have to. If Mike Dean knew he would be confronted with footage of incidents, and in the light of that had to explain why he made certain decisions it would concentrate his mind and curb his overinflated ego.
On another note there are worrying suggestions this morning that Jankewitz came out last night and deliberately got himself sent off, his agent said, “he doesn’t want to play at Southampton”. Looking at that tackle, at that early stage of the game, his first contribution, it is highly likely to be the case. He must have known what the result of his assault,(because that’s what it was), on McTominay would be. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if his agent put him up to it, they are mercenary bastards with no scruples whatsoever.

Might want to take it down

When I read those reports, and I’ve no reason to doubt them, I immediately thought of Ralph’s comment quite recently that any player not fully committed to Southampton would be allowed to leave, that we didn’t want anyone here that doesn’t want to be here. I know we’re now in the middle of an injury crisis, but he was so definite about it that the statement suddenly seems a bit hollow.

Anything specific, or is that just a general musing?:smile:

Food for thought.

2nd Feb 2021. Man Utd 9 Saints 0.
2nd Feb 1974. Ipswich 7 Saints 0.

I fucking hate the 2nd of February. I went to that one, which was for some reason, a 7pm ko. We had been 5th at xmas, but had stopped winning, other than a couple of cup wins. Everyone thought it wouldn’t last

We got relegated.

Groundhog Day!

This is leveled out by everyone else being in the same situation.

A nice little take on proceedings from the Guardian:

To be resolutely fair to Southampton, they should have had a consolation to make it 4-1, but VAR spotted that Fred and Harry Maguire were offside, or something, we don’t know any more, and it might not be too much longer until nobody cares. Also, the penalty that sparked the late three-goal flurry that turned a mere garden-variety thrashing into Thundering Humiliation II was fairly soft, while the second red, for Jan Bednarek, was a Mike Dean speciality.

Everyone else has the same number of players out? Nope

Spot on. And we have appealed the red of course. Because it was bollocks

Haven’t seen that confirmed

Club not said it directly but the usual informed media have clearly been briefed.

Southampton request Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate games - BBC Sport

I asked Ralph…

”do you think United will score tonight”

He replied…”Nein”…

We are all disappointed with what happened last night, but it is just a football match and there can never be any excuse for people to dish out racial abuse on the back of it. I hope the scumbags who did this get named and shamed and banned from the club.
