The Ashes series of 2005 started at Lordâs - Australia won that test but lost the series. The 1977 series started at Lordâs with a draw, England going on to win the series 3-0. In my lifetime, which started in 1960, these are the only two Ashes series in England in which the first Test has been played at Lordâs.
Ricky Ponting famously whined in 2009 that the series didnât start at Lordâs, as if this was some evil ploy to make things harder for his team. This ignored the facts, but it was a splendid little gripe nonetheless. In 2009 the second Test was played at Lordâs - England won that by 115 runs.
The Ashes series this year will start at Edgbaston.
Well it seemed like they always beat us so shove your facts up yer arse!

Youâre quite right. I think weâve all had enough of facts and experts and suchlike things.

New Zealand v India at Old Trafford, 1st Semi final
NZ won the toss (soggy biscuit went to India) and elected to bat, wrong choice??
1-1 after 3.3 overs
Bumrah to Guptill, OUT , edged and gone! Bumrahâs cobra-like zip off a tight off-stump line, snags the outside edge of a back-foot flinch, and thatâs a tremendous take from Kohli at second slip! Utterly flying, and he clings on with a shimmy to his left, high in front of his face
MJ Guptill c Kohli b Bumrah 1 (14b 0x4 0x6) SR: 7.14
Some superb deliveries there but could he do it on a cold day in Whitby?

Bumrahâs doing it on a cold day in Manchester
69-2 after 18.2 overs
Jadeja to Nicholls, OUT , Jadeja finds turn and barges through Nichollsâ gate! Good length, breaks back in and bounces, Nicholls plays slightly outside the line of it, perhaps he did not expect it to spin this much. Jadeja breaches his defences. The middle stump is knocked back. Jadeja dents NZâs recovery
HM Nicholls b Jadeja 28 (51b 2x4 0x6) SR: 54.90
Itâs been a watching brief for NZ after they lost Guptil early on, but they have upped the rate somewhat. Goof bowling from Bumrah (the Everliving) and others have restricted the rate.
113-2 from 30
One would suggest that NZ really do need to up the run rate somewhatâŚ
Williamson gone. Now 141-3 off 37.2
Turgid is a bit too exciting to describe it, but from my stream looks grey dank and damp and the pitch looks really slow.
England need to be careful tomorrow IF the weather is turning the pitches back into Champions Trophy sponges
I think this innings can only be judged when India bat, its still a bit under par and NZ have been very reserved but with only 2 in form batsman really you canât blame them.

I blame the early alarm callâŚ
Still raining.
Will not lose any overs until 16:00 UK time. Then D/L comes into play.
IF there is no further play today then the match resumes tomorrow from the point they walked off the pitch today.
Yeah, that took the entire rain delay so far to work out.

4.45pm Looks like we have an update (kind of): We understand that if the match fails to start by 1835 local time (for a 20-over game) then it will be deferred to tomorrow. And for that to happen the rain has to ideally stop by 1730.
Play suspended for the day. The match will resume tomorrow, starting where they left off today. N Z 211-5 with 3.5 overs left.
This may not have been in the script
Rohit, Kohli AND Rahul all out!
