Has the Brexit argument been effectively won so

It’s a sign of desperation

The context of the statement isn’t incorrect, big corps, tax dodgers and luvvies will be happy for this nation to sink and die for their own selfish reasons.

Boris Johnson is a nob, in general and for the way he’s expressed his argument.

Why draw the Hitler comparison? The idea that the EU is an empire by stealth is powerful enough on its own merits. You don’t need to introduce the spectre of a Hitlerian agenda to get worried about it. I suspect that the only reason that Boris is even mentioning it is because the man has a Churchill obsession, and is keen to have his name mentioned alongside the wartime leader as frequently as possible.

The EU has nearly all the problems of empire. It has people that don’t want to be part of it. It has to reconcile multiple cultures, and often fails in that regard. It can be indifferent to the needs of individual groups or states when acting in the interests of the whole, or the core. Its expansion will creates tension both inside and outside the empire.

The one big difference between the EU and empires of the past is that it doesn’t have to be secured or maintained by force of arms. Territory is ceded by consent via treaty, but the tradeoff is that we swap military campaigns for internal civil disquiet, which is fuelled by a lack of democracy and transparency.

Is this form of empire any more stable than the militarily acquired blocs of the past? I’d actually argue that it isn’t. The EU, as constituted, is only nine years old. I make that claim because this is last time that EU enlargement occurred, but I’m not precious about it. I can just as easily go back to Maastricht (when the principles of the Single Market were enshrined) or even way back to when the very ideas of closer co-operation were being formed in 1945.

At best, you’ve got a fledgling empire of 71 years vintage. At worst, it’s a child wandering toward its tenth birthday. However you want to date it, or even if you want to neutrally refer to it a “bloc” instead of the more sensational “empire”, it is coming apart at the seams and has already given us glimpses of the damage it can achieve for the “greater good”. We’ve suspended democracies, implemented policies without considering, or being indifferent to, the impact that it might have on the citizens of a nation state.

When you get to that stage, I don’t think you’re really talking about a group of co-operating countries anymore. I think you’re talking empire, and in empires, disaffected people seek self-determination. We are not alone in wanting out of the EU. We’re just the only ones being given the choice. No doubt the right call made for all the wrong reasons, but I am glad that we have it, and while I think BoJo gave us another demonstration of his lack of subtlety by invoking Godwin, it is not unreasonable to perceive the EU as an empire, and not unreasonable to ask whether we want to be part of it.

Amusing, especially premise that we’ll be cable-tying our former compatriots for immediate deporation as soon as Brexit is passed.

Do you reckon we’ll deport existing migrants, KRG?

Fuck knows. That’s the problem with Vote Leave. You’re stupid if you ask for detail, you accosted me for such previously.

Also, that was clearly a joke.

France? Ha Ha same again but with even more wealth.

Give me the figures of actual British born (not of Irish descent who came over in the 70 and returned) claimants in the EU?

Worthy of Stalinist propaganda, retiring to another nation with capital is good, working in another nation is good also, putting a strain of schools and healhcare is an issue regardless.

We have to fiddle our figures as not to wind the local population up even further, the politburo bells and right wing bussinessmen love this, cheap labour, no real checks on exploitation as once you are in thats it, the person who washes you car, the cleaner and the window cleaner, are they? Bollocks are they, race to the bottom and the left are helping it fucking do gooder sandal wearing ignorant traitors

You just post anything that seems to justfy your argument whether its actually true or not, a classic example of not being educated on the real issues KRG, your ideology clouds yours judgement and thought process.

Jesus wept Baz. You say I’m permanently offended.

It’s a pisstake, chill you.

In a passive agressive way, implying its actually fact when its shite and nothing more than that, when will the bells implying immigration is bad, stop, its a lie, immigration is needed, unchecked immigration is not needed as the worker is exploited, its very easy to understand and this is why many unions (you do know about workers unions I presume?) are so opposed to it, not a racist extension although I am sure some of the outs involved are doing this for that that or ideological reason.

Throwing into the mix retired monied retirees is fucking stupid and puerile.

I’d have his word over yours KRG to be fair.

Oh sweetheart. Keep getting yourself flustered.

What a whopper.

Don’t give me that shite Mavis, you post codshit to appear to justify your weak argument and then pass it off as a laugh when challenged, try again, trust me kiddo I am not offended or flustered, how could I be?

Yeah, you definitely don’t seem it at all.

Could I humbly suggest #bickerexit? The pair of you have both made much better arguments in the past.

Barry’s posting links, expecting us to dig for the context that’ll conclusively prove his argument. KRG seems to be emulating CB Fry with the sweetheart stuff. It’s not dignified. I expect better.

And yes, I am a patronising cunt.

Wow, in all that sweetheart is the bit you take issue with.

That Liverpudlian media bias really is running rampant.

Untwist thy knicks, KRG.

Barry got stick for his approach too. Was sweetheart a low hanging fruit? Certainly, but you dangled its delicious comparative qualities to be picked.

I’m posting a link thats from today from the former head of MI6 not some paddy power facebook conversation shite, my post has some validity unlike this young upstart.

There for balance.
