🏏 :engerland: England (and :walesisntit: Wales) Cricket 2024

Won the toss.

Batting.

Pope fails again.

And Root.

Iffy pitch on day 1

Could be a short game this.

Oh.

105 partnership.
223-6

Ball spinning but just play straight is the technique
But now gone into T20 Mode

258-9
Rehan goes for a Sunday League head up down the pitch hoik
Ball turns about 3 feet to bowl him

Bat straight, bowl slow, old fashioned cricket
So Jack Leach playing reverse sweeps…

267 all out. Chance wasted after winning the toss
Equally a lot more than expected after losing 5 wickets in the morning session

Pakistan 73-3 at close

Gonna be more worm shaggers as the game wears on.

Still think England blew it - if they had played old fashioned cricket may have squeezed out another 50 or 60 runs

Pakistan lower order showing how to bat on this wicket 330/8

21-3. Ducket and Crawley missed straight ones. Pope would have done better without a bat. How many more chances will they give this fraud of a batsman?

Have to agree with you about Pope, he’s been stealing a living for a while now. Averages just 22 from his last eleven innings, take out his century against the rabbits of |Sri Lanka last summer and it’s a pathetic 9.2. For a batsman going in first wicket down that is truly awful. But of course he went to the right school and plays for Surrey. It’s hard to escape the conclusion that if he played for example Glamorgan or Derbyshire, he would have been binned long ago. I have to say Stokes’ captaincy left a lot to be desired too, leaving Ahmed kicking his heels on the boundary for so long was clearly a mistake. His batting too has been very ordinary, and noticeably he didn’t bowl himself, so if this is due to injury he’s hardly worth his place at the moment.

And all of the WA team are Aussie internationals

And much did they make at the bookies ?

Not forgetting that playing for Hampshire seems to be a poor career move too.

True dat.

So Pope keeps his place.
