Bairstow castled by Nortje for 0, straight through his defences

55-4

Ball is moving a fair bit. Mind you Nortje chucked that one down at 93mph

Pope 50 up, just dropped (tough chance) the delivery before and then cracks a lovely cover drive for 4.

96-4

And then Stokes get done by the last ball before lunch for 20

100-5, lunch

:man_facepalming:

It was a good ball for Nortje again

Some very good bowling on display.

South Africa have bowled well but WTF was Stokes doing, what is he trying to prove? Charging the quick bowlers from the start, he was fortunate not to get himself out at least twice before falling to a good ball on the stroke of lunch. Given the situation England were in it was irresponsible, especially from the captain. He needs to calm down, it’s Test cricket not the IPL.

I think it’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t really.

If it works great, if it doesn’t you look like a right plonker.

It’s more about trying to unsettle the bowler, to put doubt in the bowlers mind about what you’re going to do. If you just sit back and defend and score the occasional run it’s going to gee the bowler up.

Pope gone after surviving a comical dropped catch earlier, inside edges Rabade on to his own stumps

Pope 73
Eng 134-7

And that is that, 165ao

Rabada gets a Michelle.

Elgar gets an edge onto his pad that then ricochets forward and hits his upper arm, the ball then goes backward and rolls painfully to the stumps, Elgar can’t kick it away quick enough and the bails are disturbed.

Elgar 47
SA 85-1

Greetings from a very warm Lower tier of the Grandstand. All I can say is, thank god I didn’t come yesterday.

Fight back from England but that late SA partnership from Maharaj and Jansen did a lot of damage

Looks like the South Africa have unearthed a good one in Jansen. A decent, pacy bowler who can bat as well, and still only 22 I think. He’s 6’8" too, he will be a handful on a dry quick wicket.

Bit of a beanpole. He could still bulk out and get quicker.

Lunch at Lords

Pope goes LBW last ball before lunch. Maharaj with the ball.

Umpire gave it not out originally, SA reviewed and it was pretty plumb.

Maharaj got Creepy LBW for not much earlier on
