72% possession, 20 shots, 5 on target, 1 goal.

I think I see the problem….

Puel out

Semi final last year anyone?

We needed a much stronger defence tonight, and at least one of JWP, Smallbone and Lavia to take control. Then a few youngsters.

Just goes to show how much work there is left to go to reshape this squad. There are at least 8 players we’d love to shift and another 5 we’ll be lucky to keep.

It’s going to be an interesting 3 weeks.

This is worth a listen. From it you can deduce that he is not happy with Lyanco, Bree, Perraud, Mara, Djenepo and possibly Adams. Stu and Aribo were mentioned more positively.

Truth be told I would have happily gotten rid of the first five without hesitation before tonight anyway.

[09/08, 08:25] Geoff Soul: Martin did say ā€œa lot thought of themselves as PL players but weren’tā€ . I think the main culprits were Bree, Perrauld (never a CB), Mara and to an extent Lyanco. All apparently got screamed at for impatient long balls or running into trouble. Mara was so lazy. Charles did nothing as DM and SA was a duck out of water there - I’m sorry for him being asked to play there. Che never got into the game -too isolated when the midfield was non-existent. Amo-Ameyaw and Djenepo were good without end product. Probably too impatient in this system. That leaves Meghoma who’s supposed to be the next big thing but didn’t look it, and McCarthy, who didn’t impress. Couldn’t hear that Aribo did much when he came on, not sure about Doyle, Alcaraz showed he has class and please let us never see TP again.

But although Martin must take some blame, mainly for players out of position, I’m completely with him stamping his authority and blasting players for not following what’s been coached. Saturday showed it can work but not with egos that think they know better.
